Hughton can hold his head up high.Well the decision has been made to usher Chris Hughton out of the door. It’s shocking, but it’s been and gone and there is very little that can be done to bring him back now.
My own view is that Hughton has been strung out to dry on this one. Mike Ashley has given him very little to work with in terms of resources since he was awarded the managers job, but working within those restrictions and doing a grand job appears to be not enough.
Let’s not forget where we were when Hughton took control of the reins at Newcastle.
We had just been relegated and had a club up that was up for sale. Players were leaving left, right, and centre amid rumours of a poisonous dressing room and infighting. The club could very easily have drifted towards oblivion, but it didn’t, and that was largely down to one man – Chris Hughton.
Chris Hughton will forever have a place in Tyneside folklore in my opinion. Whilst I admit that I wasn’t overly keen to see him appointed as our full-time manager, I have to say that come the end of his tenure at St James’ Park he had completely won me around and I was right behind him. In fact I was even singing his name at The Hawthorns yesterday, along with a large percentage of other fans I hasten to add. (more…)
Hughton suited, now booted. The breaking news is that Newcastle have today parted company with Chris Hughton.
Chris Hughton has been the manager of Newcastle United for the past 18 months and masterminded promotion from The Championship at the first attempt. Goalkeeping coach Paul Barron also leaves his role.
The betting had been suspended earlier in the morning, which has happened before, but it appears that this time around they were right. The team has been in a bad run of form of late, but this decision has shocked me to the core as I was fully behind Hughton and feel that he just needed time to turn things around. It’s still early days and there will need to be some time to digest this news before the speculation starts regarding Hughton’s successor.
Another draw in prospect?Hello, good afternoon and welcome to NUFC ‘Blog’s “Match Banter”, with Newcastle United facing the mighty Throstles of West Bromwich. NUFC ‘Blog’s Toonsy will be at the game (and hopefully writing a match report) while I hold the fort.
Of course, both teams are recent promotees from the Championship, and there have been similarities in their respective campaigns so far. Both have been led by extremely talented individuals who, while steeped in football, have been new boys when it comes to management. While both have aquitted themselves well overall compared with the norm for promoted teams, with respectable mid table positions going into the game, there have also been times when both have been frustratingly erratic. Our previous league encounters in the Championship (1-1 and 2-2) would tend to indicate a draw, however with the Premiership form of the two sides so far, you never know. (more…)
Williamson secures Tyneside future. There were some strong rumours last week suggesting that Nile Ranger and Mike Williamson were set to sign new long-term contracts with Newcastle.
It appears those rumours were indeed true as it has been revealed on the official club website that both playes have signed new deals that will run to the summer of 2016.
Newcastle seem to be getting the hang of this contract malarkey. Both Andy Carroll and Tim Krul, two of our bright hopes, have been tied down to long term contracts, and rumours are abound suggesting that Steven Taylor has been offered a new improved deal. Now we have the news regarding Mike Williamson and Nile Ranger to add to the good work the club have done in the last few weeks with regard to securing the services of some of our current players.
We’ll start with Mike Williamson, as I have him pictured in the article. Mike is quite clearly happy that he has secured his future on Tyneside after being at the club for only 11 months. This is what he said to the official club website; (more…)
Match highlights and post match interviews from today’s highly creditable draw with Chelsea at a freezing St James’s Park. It took just 6 minutes for Andy Carroll to put one past the frozen visitors as their recent slump in form continued. However, Solomon Kalou rescued the begloved big girl’s blouses of West London with a goal against the general run of play as half time loomed.
See below for post match interviews with Newcastle manager, Chris Hughton, and Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancellotti. (more…)
