Carroll - England career will come.Another international break, and another period of the football calendar that doesn’t really interest me one bit.
Am I still spitting the dummy out over the way my national team, England, let me down over the summer? Probably.
It could have been very different though had a certain Andy Carroll recieved the call from Fabio Capello.
At least having a player involved in the England team that is from the team I support would have given me a reason to keep an eye on the build up to the match against Montenegro. Carroll didn’t get the call, and to me that means that the England team is now just the same closed shop as it was over the summer. Others may disagree with though. (more…)
No need for new signings says Hughton.It looks like the players that Newcastle have now will have to make do until the end of the season, if you go by what Chris Hughton has said today.
Hughton insists that he will not be tempted into making any new signings when the transfer window re-opens in January.
The news will come as a blow to fans who had hoped that January could see some reinforcements drafted in, especially given the fact that we have now lost one of our summer acquisitions for quite some time in the shape of Ben Arfa.
Speaking to the official club website, Hughton had this to say:
“I’m disappointed to have lost a player of Hatem’s quality – but we’ll not overreact to one injury in what is a very strong squad. We won’t be adding to the squad in January; I feel we have a lot of strength in depth with the players we have already and there’s no need to add to it.”(more…)
Sign him up!Those words in the headline aren’t my own, but they are my interpretation of what Marseille boss Didier Deschamps has had to say today.
Perhaps it’s understandable that most of the news seems to be about Ben Arfa. After all, there is no club football coming at the weekend, and to be fair the injury to Ben Arfa is just about the biggest talking point of the moment for us.
Most of us are aware that the signature of Ben Arfa was to be triggered after the young Frenchman played 25 times for Newcastle. Given the quality of the lad that wouldn’t have been a problem and we would have signed him automatically I would imagine. This catastrophic injury though has put a proverbial cat amongst the proverbial pigeons however.
There is no way that Ben Arfa is going to play 25 games this season now, which has led to a lot of questions and speculation regarding the future of our new crowd favourite. Just what does it mean? Will we sign him regardlesss? Is the deal now off? They are all questions that I have heard and read over the past few days. (more…)
Official statement alert.Newcastle have asked the FA to punish Nigel de Jong for the challenge that resulted in Hatem Ben Arfa sustaining a broken Fibia and Tibula at the weekend.
It is understood that the club are far from happy over the tackle and feel it was ‘unnecessary and used excessive force’.
They are also writing a letter of complaint to the appropriate body regarding the perfomance of Martin Atkinson in the match against Manchester City.
In a statement released on the nufc.co.uk, the official website, the club had this to say;
“Newcastle United FC have today written a strongly-worded letter to the Football Association in relation to the tackle by Manchester City’s Nigel de Jong on Hatem Ben Arfa in Sunday’s Premier League fixture, which resulted in Ben Arfa sustaining a broken tibia and fibula of his left leg.”
“The club has asked the FA for the appropriate action to be taken against De Jong for the tackle which in the club’s opinion was unnecessary and used excessive force.”(more…)
