  1. <<<<<<< disappointed we did not hang on for all 3 points but on play thought 1 v 1 was a fair result, yet again 1 or 2 bloops from the officals

  2. started the game well, and possibly should have been two or three up.
always knew west brom would pick up, and it was a false start to the game, from their point of view.
the second half is what you become used to, under pardew’s stewardship, trying to defend a one goal lead.
we had no chance of doing that, so when the goal came, it was inevitable.
he had the team sitting back deep, for the whole of the second half, and inviting west brom onto them.
then does his one and only party piece, throws shola on, to try and get on the end of the increasing long ball game, without any success.

he was in the chronicle, giving it large again, trying to goad sunderland, and defending his style, tactics, etc.
then he proceeds to go out, and do the same thing, all over again.
it summed the whole sorry situation up, earlier in the season, when he spoke of erecting 40 foot barriers around the training pitch, because his tactics were being leaked out, please!
this is the mentality of the crackpot pardew, completely stuck up his own backside.
yet again he couldn’t motivate them, to give a bit more to the cause, and you get the usual play well for 25 minutes, then spend the rest of the game, on the back foot.
i wait with bated breath for his latest round of excuses, he was clapping the fans at the end, as though he’d won something, he’s still a**e crawling to the last…

  3. I beleave that if we had Alex Ferguson with this squad we would be top four.If Pardew had the Man United squad they would be bottom four. The guy just never learns.

  4. @ Joe.

“it summed the whole sorry situation up, earlier in the season, when he spoke of erecting 40 foot barriers around the training pitch, because his tactics were being leaked out, please!

this is the mentality of the crackpot pardew, completely stuck up his own backside.” Well that’s where his tactics are being leaked from Joe! One can only hope he manages to fully insert himself one day, but then again managing is a principle he has yet to master…

  5. It’s crazy, with the talent we have we should be, doing a hell of a lot better.
One fcukin away win all season, C’mon !

And listening to Pardew interviews can question ones sanity, because his reality and what I have watched, bear no resemblance.

I only wish we could push the clock back to this time last year, when he was flavor of the month and there were rumors of him being offered the Engerland job.

Because he definitely has all the tools.
    (a) He plays the traditional game
    (b) Has an endless store of excuses
    (c) Looks good in a Blazer

I’m sure there are more positives, but these being the most important, though I would list them.

  6. I watched the postmatch comments. Did I miss something and we actually won 4-0? Were their 15 corners, where they had us in a lot of trouble and were unlucky not to score, a dream?

  7. I read a couple of the other blogs and there were at least 100 people making comments. Not one saw the game the way Pardew did.

Even Ed Harrison admitted it has been a miserable season with miserable football. I have given Pardew more than the benefit of the doubt. I want(ed) him to succeed. He has got to go.

  8. The first half video is about 45 seconds out of sync and the 2nd half won’t play more than 2 seconds anywhere on the video even with it fully buffered! So I spoiled myself and read the match banter and watched the highlights, looks like I’ve saved another 2 hours. Could have probably skipped every match this season come to think of it.

“The first half video is about 45 seconds out of sync and the 2nd half won’t play more than 2 seconds anywhere on the video even with it fully buffered!”

Maze, both played fine for me after a minute or so after starting and stopping it for about a minute to let it buffer. You’re right though about the first half commentary being out of sync.

  10. On the subject of Steve Clarke, he could have been our assistant manager now if Hughton wasn’t sacked. Still, it all turned out for the best in the end.

  11. well he’s off again spouting, in the daily mirror.
he’s now guaranteeing a top ten finish, next season ffs.
the bloke is a complete lunatic, he’s not even on this planet, to be fair to him.

unless “the gruesome twosome”, have more or less told him to carry on.
the way he’s coming across, he expects to still be in charge, even if we are in the trampionship.
it’s a scary thought, and could be the ultimate nightmare, with pardew and the amoebi’s, for years to come.

Didn’t he say that we could “challenge” for a top ten position, Joe?

  13. Joe Hawkins
Hey ! the this guy is living in his own world, one that has little reality.
“Even good news always Ed.” has seen the light.
This is the worst season apart from, the naïf Shearers relegation season (so far)
One away win all season ?
Hell SBR was in fifth place when he got the push.
Plus none of the others (who remembers them all) had such a poor season either.
Yeah, I hear those who were chuffed when he got an eight year deal, talking bout Fergie, Moyes, and the need for continuity, equating it to success and stability.
FFS if it’s not clear to everyone by now that Pardew IS the problem, then were Fcukd.

  14. Pardews inane drivel just keeps on coming. Now “Top ten finish next season”(Is that Premiership or Championship?)
“We have the squad to take us forward next season”(Did he not say that last summer?)If we have the Squad to take us forward next season can we please see some proof of it in our last few games this season.More hopefully a change in tactics. Bluddy hell now I’m becoming deluded.

  15. worky, it was wor kid who told me earlier, i’ve just had a look at the article.
i probably shouldn’t have went off half cocked, but my hatred of the barsteward, gets in the way of sanity, sometimes.
the twat has me tearing my hair out, although he does promise a top ten finish, if we’re not relegated, which is equally as shocking, to be honest.
it does seem like the prat is going to keep his job, come what may, unless the whole stadium turns against him.
it’s still classic alan pardew rubbish, and yesterday’s post match interview, could have been an old west ham interview, it was like a carbon copy.
typical back tracking, blaming all unsundry, except himself.

  16. I’ve just been checking out Birmingham City’s last season with Chris Hughton. It was 62 games in total for a squad which was mostly patched together from loanees and free agents after most of the previous squad left. Their season consisted of constant midweek games and fixture congestions, either for the Championship, the Europa League or one of the other cup competitions. One of their players, Chris Burke, played in 61 of those 62 games and many of the others played 40/50+ games in that season. Despite being asked about it many times, Hughton would refuse to use tiredness as an excuse, even when they fell at the last hurdle of the playoffs.

They were fourth at the end of that season. This season they are currently 16th.

  17. Missed the second half yesterday and was out all day. Just caught Pardew’s interview. I dislike picking on someone when they are down but “total tosser” are words that spring to mind.

  18. As I said, I was reading other blogs to gauge the general impression of our performance yesterday and season so far. Worky, you came up a few times on one of them. Some of the contributors said others would be better off on here if they wanted to criticize Pardew…and then proceeded to criticize Pardew :)

  19. Paul in Hollywood: if you missed the second half, you missed a totally different game. They had 15 corners and really pressed us.

I was thinking about the tiredness excuse. Didn’t Pardew play a lot of kids and reserves in the early European games and the domestic cups? He also got 5 new Frenchies to help out in the knockout stages of Europe. I know 2 weren’t available but then they would have been fresh for the league.

We have had a few injuries, but our reserves should have been better than a lot of teams first team. Most were full internationals. He really only used the kids as subs and some were/are highly thought of – Ferguson, Sammy.

Tactics and being outcoached by other managers has had a bigger impact. Our capitulation in the second half of a lot of games proves that. Villa, Reading and WBA were just terrible second halves after being dominant in the first.

  20. The Pardew “tactics” have not just been confined to this season there was evidence of them in our “lucky” season last term Fulham,West Brom, etc. So the hope that by some miracle they may disappear next term look very unlikely.Pardew is not going to change, our only hope is Ashley changes Pardew for someone with at least half a brain.I seem to be using the word hope a lot lately.

  21. Suarez bit Ivanovich and the Ref doesn’t see it. That has to mean a ban for our game, right?

  22. I think it is a case of him thinking with those choppers it would be a shame not to use them.

  23. That’ll be the only taste of champions league football Suarez will get in a Liverpool shirt! I reckon he will play vs us and then be banned for the next 8 or so.

  24. you cannot blame suarez for doing what comes naturally, he is a rodent, and after all, they are gnawing animals.
feel sorry for ivanovic, because suarez could eat an apple through a lettbox, with those hamstead!, it must have been the equilent of being bitten by a horse.

  25. As I very much doubt Ashley is into reading football blogs, I suppose like most things concerning the game, he is totally ignorant of the depth of anti Pardew feeling.

A few bed-sheets in addition to a few chants, may focus his attention, on the other hand he will probably put it down to the fact we lost the derby.

But I really think he is well aware of the fact this season only compares to that of our relegation year.

Plus he does i’m sure remember his naivety and has no wish to repeat it.

And we know he was aware of the fact by not spending money on recruiting for what was to become, a heavy duty schedule (surprise) when every dog in the street knew a few key injuries and we were stretched to the limit.

So he hit the panic button (I wonder who at the club he trusts in regard to football) probably Carr.

Brought in five additions, all of who are decent, but like at every club, need a bit of time (and a real manager)to adjust and figure who plays where.

Ed. is talking about big clear-outs, yeah we could replace the following, R.Taylor,Gosling,Williamson, possibly Obertan, who wants to get first team duty at home in France.
Looks like Collo. and Simpson will be on their way, in which case another FB & CD will be needed, plus a striker.
I fear for Cabaye, as he appears to be on some big clubs radar, a big enough offer and he’s gone.

I have a feeling the same may apply to some of the others, who may be putting themselves in the shop window.

This summer will show how much ambition Ashley has for the club, but I say that this time every season and remain non the wiser.

If he really does have ambitions for the side, he should be doing due diligence on a few decent Managers, because whatever course he takes, retaining Pardew will negate it, it will result in a waste of money.

But oh! he did promise to get us in the top ten next season, FFS!
Hell! I could guarantee that and what do I know ?

  26. chuck says:

“But oh! he did promise to get us in the top ten next season, FFS!”

From what I read, he didn’t quite promise it, Chuck. He merely said that we could be “contenders” for the top ten, so long as we don’t get relegated this season.

  27. Chuck says:

“As I very much doubt Ashley is into reading football blogs, I suppose like most things concerning the game, he is totally ignorant of the depth of anti Pardew feeling.”

I agree Chuck that Ashley does not read blogs, though he probably has his ear closer to the ground that we think; but all that said and done I think he is a “results” man, and I doubt he is happy that after bringing in five new players (and purples at that) in January he is too thrilled to find his team in a dogfight at the bottom of the table. It must have crossed his mind that Alan may not be the man he was so cracked up to be by Derek.

Added to that, I think Mike may be getting the hang of this gig (uh-oh, I fear Worky’s disagreement coming)and he may have realized that buying quality on the cheap may not be the fix-all he had first thought. He needs a decent manager to go with that. Here’s hoping anyway.

  28. This is getting ridiculous now. Pardew before the West Brom game:

“This week there is no excuse. We’ve had the same amount of time as West Brom and hopefully that will be shown on the pitch.”

Pardew after the West Brom game:

“This was our 50th game today, which goes a little bit unnoticed. With all the travelling involved as well, that’s tough. Clubs will look at us and the impact it can have, because it’s not only the extra games but the injuries we’ve had on the back of that. There’s no doubt that our league position would be greater [without it].”

“We’ve had to pay a heavy penalty on the Sundays, not just for Sunderland but for previous games. Swansea are going to find that next year – it’s difficult, unless you really increase the size of your squad.”

Are we currently living in Geordie hell, or is it just purgatory?

  29. “I know one year that Barcelona played with 19 first-team players, as well as a few younger players, and they played every three days. It is possible,” – Michael Laudrup, who won around fifteen major trophies as a player with Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Ajax and five as a manager so far.

“I don’t want any more players. I am happy with the short squad I have. I want a squad of 20 players, no more” – Jose Mourinho – Winner of 20 major trophies as a manager so far.

  30. Worky @ 35: I think this shows that Pardew, who as a player and manager has won nothing (?), knows squat. I wouldn’t call it hell or purgatory, but it needs to be a wake up call for Mike and Derek.

  31. Paul in Hollywood says:

“Worky @ 35: I think this shows that Pardew, who as a player and manager has won nothing (?),”

Paul, he did win the Johnstone’s Paint Pot Trophy for lower league clubs. That was with Southampton before he came here.

  32. I see he’s in today’s chronicle, saying he will talk to fans about their issues and misgivings, but only when the season is over.
Pardew is hoping he can get a win which would keep us safe, then hope the furore dies down, and it will all be swept under the carpet, and forgot about.
he just crawls and squirms the whole time, all i want to know from him, is when he is leaving!, i’ve had a belly full of his excuses.

  33. Corners. This was in the comments section of The Mag article but I think it is worth posting on here:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2311576/Premier-League-corner-conversion-statistics-Manchester-United-best-Newcastle-United-worst.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

I think this is an indictment of the coaches and players alike. Did we even get 1 goal from a corner? I can’t remember it.

What it doesn’t show is that our corners are so bad that they invite a counter-attack.

  34. You know the only Manager who has done a worse job than Pardew this year? Harry Redknapp. Someone that turned down NUFC! His excuses are just as laughable as Alan’s and he blames everybody but himself. Not getting Odemwingie on deadline day is his latest :)

  35. Looks like Suarez will be banned for our game, there is an FA disrepute hearing on Wednesday. That gives us some hope as he is Liverpool’s best player by a mile.

I have seen some people say it wasn’t that bad because the rabid hamster didn’t break skin. That was only because Ivanovic reacted fast enough, and was strong enough to push him off.

Those incisors should be registered as deadly weapons.

  36. joe hawkins says:

If that fails pick daft fans who don’t know what to ask, or how to ask it, make ’em look daft, then call them daft and unrealistic and laugh at them.

Oh! And get Lee Ryder and Mark Douglas to cover it.

  37. So can we agree that Suarez is a POS now? Can’t believe the way folks have made excuses for him in the past because of his (undeniable) skill. Serially bites guys, serially cheats to gain advantage and racially abuses other players. And then there’s the fact that I’ve watched him and seen all sorts of other, minor, unsavory behaviors. Wouldn’t want to run into him up a dark alley in Montevideo…

  38. FFS ! leave it out about Suarez, the guys a great player.
Another red herring situation, the media love this kinda stuff, where they can vent their hypocritical bullshit.
Demonizing the guy, ban him for life, sell him, get him outta this country, all nonsense!
Talk about diving, we have an Olympic medal winner in Jonas, touch him and he collapses, but he does it so well he gets a nine outta ten every time and I have never heard anyone say a word about it.

  39. worky @ 36: good point in there re Perch v Anita. AP’s preference for an English utility player most useful for tackling over any number of options is telling. Gives lie to AP’s excuses. The squads we see are those prepared and selected by AP because they’re his preference. He needs to live with that but he won’t until somebody makes him. Not holding my breath on the media but I wonder where MA’s patience ends/DL decides it’s time to sacrifice him.

Of this club’s last eight managers the only to win a lower % than AP are Keegan on the 2nd go-round & JFK. Yes, Allardyce, Roeder and Souness were all better. And the best? Chris Hughton, of course (50%).

  40. chuck: red herring? He bit a guy. Again. If Jonas also repeatedly bit people and kicked guys and then told them he did it “because you are black,” yeah-Jonas would get criticism too.

“worky @ 36: good point in there re Perch v Anita. AP’s preference for an English utility player most useful for tackling over any number of options is telling.”

Gutierrez is the player who makes the most tackles in the side, tunyc.

  42. Chuck @46: My main point about Suarez is that he won’t be available to face us.

Saying Jonas is Bambi on ice doesn’t excuse Suarez. In fact, for at least part of this season the Refs seemed to have sussed Jonas.

And the biting is pretty indefensible. I saw John Nicholson try on Football365 and it was a joke of an article. I can’t be bothered to post it here it was so bad.

As I said, the only reason Ivanovic doesn’t have a chunk out of his arm is because he was quick to shove Suarez off.

  43. Chuck and tunyc: It is going to be important for Man U to stomp on Villa in an hour – live on ESPN 2.

With Villa against Wigan as the last day game, today’s game may be big for us.

  44. ACHTUNG!

Just to let you all know, there will be a little turbulence on the site tomorrow morning (UK time) as Hugh and myself will be moving this site on to a new server. It might take a little time to percolate ’round the network once it’s done (it varies a little sometimes), but it shouldn’t take too long (fingers crossed).

  45. Does’nt look good for Wigan, with the toughest run-in games.
Though it could still be a number of side mathematically, including ourselves.
Like to see Wigan survive again, they play an entertaining style, but if they go down, what’s Martinez gonna do, (you listening Ashley)
Could be Stoke or Villa, wouldn’t mind that, Stoke because of route one, Villa out of Schadenfreude, because of their behavior to-wards us during our relegation season.

  46. Worky sez
Jonas is the one who makes the most tackles in the side!

Yeah! when he plays as a winger, he should try it when he plays left back sometime.

  47. Ivanovich seemed unaffected and continued to play.
What about tackles like McManamans ?
There are far worse incidents than Suarez’, that get little attention and for the most part without penalty.
What annoys me is, this guy Suarez , is the designated media target, he gets more scrutiny than most.
And they tend to exaggerate any infringement.
If I were him I would fcuk off to Spain or some other league, as he’s always gonna be the subject of negative stuff from the press and others.

  48. Good idea about Spain where only Barca and Madrid can afford him. There’s not much bad blood from media in one of those cities against the other city’s team :) You wouldn’t hear a peep from La Marca if, for example, Suarez signed for Barca and bit a Valencia player.

I am not saying he wouldn’t be good in Spain but their press in Madrid and Barcelona are every bit as rabid as ours when it comes to their rival.

  49. What a goal – Van Persie. That’s that one done then. Lets have a hatful to hurt their goal difference.

  50. worky @ 49: he’s another one. To choose him at fullback over Haidara without even including Simpson in the squad…I can’t fathom it.

chuck @ 56: that’s my point. So his antisocial behavior justified because he’s talented? Because that’s clearly his petulant, entitled take on it. I disagree about the comparison with the McManaman tackle, which you can argue was an overzealous football action. What Suarez did looked like a violent crime, straight up, to me.

  51. Worky @ 38 says: “Paul, he did win the Johnstone’s Paint Pot Trophy for lower league clubs.”

Well, at least he has a pot to p*ss in then Worky.

  52. Tunyc
The point is Suarez has been a target for the British media, from day one, if I were him, I would certainly fcuck off to a more friendly environment.
And as there are no lack of admirers, why stay here?
Where people caught up in the media hysteria, go overboard, for no reason other than, a hey you know those Dagos they spit and bite and dive, hell there’s no limit to their un-British behavior.
It’s just a bit of leftover racism, that most Brits have not yet reconciled with, even though they realize it’s bullshit.

  53. Chuck @62: you are crazy. How can you equate a reaction to a player biting another to racism, and a particularly British form of racism at that?

The press can have a vendetta against anyone, it has nothing to do with race or ethnicity. Look at their hounding of Bobby Robson when he was England manager.

They are over the top in their praise of Van Persie, Chicharito, Mata, Falcao, Lukaku, Ronaldo, Higuain, and Messi etc.

Hell, I think they all want to have Jose Mourinho’s love child.

Your argument that Suarez is targeted because of race just doesn’t make sense.

I was going to say clear your cache, tunyc!

Hugh hasn’t got it properly yet either and he’s in Somerset. Just hold on for the moment. Sorry about this.

  59. Here we go again, personal insults instead of a reasonable argument against my claim.
To in turn claim bigotry against me, for claiming bigotry as the cause of the recent hysteria involving both the media and public, is a new one.
And for someone to claim, the recent leg breaking lunge against Haidara, was unintentional, therefor excusable, can only be described as bizarre.
Ivanovic was obviously not bothered, as he continued to play unhindered.
So why the public outcry ?
We all know the answer to that.
It’s simply not cricket, nor is spitting, diving and other perceived imports.
Hell break his led, head butt him, all manly ways of going about it, but no spitting please, it offends our sensibilities.
C’mon folks, grow up, you are but a small part of a big world, don’t be so insular.

  60. Worky @68: there is a comments section. Only 2 comments, but 1 from Nick Dryden basically covers all of the points for why NUFC fans are not happy with Pardew and why it is not knee-jerk.

Your site works fine on my PC using IE by the way.

  61. Chuck: I made a reasoned argument against your bizarre claim. (I know you read what I say because you reply even though you don’t reference me).I also didn’t defend spitting or head-butting or reckless leg-breaking tackles, they should all be punished.

There was a massive outcry on here against a British player (McManaman) trying to maim a Frenchman (Hadaira) so I certainly don’t get your point at all.

The problem most thought was with the FA and their stupid rule for retrospective punishment.

LFC saw fit to punish Suarez themselves, so maybe they are wrong as well and are being racist to their own player? Wigan did nothing to McManaman so maybe you can imply they don’t like the French.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ivanovic seek personal retribution on the pitch in the future. That would also be wrong and should be punished.

HOWEVER, there is a different rule for Rooney though. Remember when he elbowed that player when he was running by him and easily could have broken his cheekbone? Ref didn’t see it, no retrospective FA punishment. That’s why people think there are double standards but it does not exonerate Suarez, it indicts the FA. Do you see the difference Chuck.

It’s “Newsnow” that’s bust now seemingly.

Tunyc, how are things at your end? Any joy with your desktop yet?

  63. Right, well I can get the site now but only by using Google’s DNS servers instead of the ones my ISP maintains (my ISP uses carrier pigeon to transfer DNS records).

Clearing browser cache and flushing your operating system’s DNS cache might help if you’re still not getting it (although it didn’t in my case).

  64. worky: no worries, it’s appearing just fine on all my machines now…

chuck @ 71: err, GS pointing out that other folks, who are not ethnic minorities, are targeted for such attention from the media is indeed an argument and one that strikes directly at your claim.

As for Suarez v McManaman, it’s really not the argument I want to have but in a nutshell at least McManaman could claim it was some sort of tackle. What football-related maneuver can Suarez claim to have been attempting?
