Newcastle United vs Chelsea match banter

Newcastle United v Chelsea.
Best time to meet Chelsea for a while.
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle.
Date: Saturday 3rd Dec, 2011.
Kick-off: 12.45pm.
Referee: Mike Dean.
TV: Sky Sports 2.

Hello Geordies and welcome to our match banter feature for today’s early home fixture against Chelsea.

Even with home advantage, we have to go back to May 2006 for our last victory against Chelsea in the Premiership, with Titus Blunder scoring the winning goal in a 1-0 victory at St James’. However, with Chelsea’s relatively poor form recently as they attempt to settle under recently appointed manager Andre Villas Boas, now is almost certainly the best time in a long while to finally squeeze 3 points out of Chelsea’s pensioners.

Although they are only one place below us in fifth, they have lost no fewer than three of their last four games in all competitions, two of those defeats coming against Liverpool in the Premiership and the League Cup, with the other coming in the Champion’s League against Bayer Leverkusen. In the Premiership alone, they have lost four games out of thirteen so far, whereas we of vourse have lost only one, against moneybags Man City. But anyway, for a far more in depth preview of today’s match, please check out the thoroughly excellent and extensive match preview from our latest star signing, Andy Mac.

One piece of news for regular readers is that we may not feature our usual post match stuff this week, ie match reports, highlights and other analysis due to other commitments, however I shall try to do what I can under the circumstances. As usual though, I will be uploading the teamsheets for this afternoon’s game when they become available.

As usual, please feel free to post any good links to the game if you have any.

Howay the lads!

  1. Very winable game. We’ve conducted ourselvse well in the last 2 matches and a good result here should sort out the doubters in the press.
I’m looking forward to a long lunch (in the pub!).
    Enjoy the game everyone.
    HWTL!

  2. Carn the lads. It’s a nice early game from me in Sydney. 11.45pm is kick off and thats sooo much better than the normal 1am or 2am kick off.

Where’s everyone watching from and what time is it?

“Where’s everyone watching from and what time is it?”

I hesitate to identify sites Charlie as I feel that big brother is always watching somewhere and risk losing the stream halfway through. However there must be a decent EPL football SITE somewhere ? Just dont think I’d like to be in the FIRST ROW watching this game today :)

  4. Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Gabriel Obertan, Yohan Cabaye, Danny Guthrie, Peter Lovenkrands; Hatem Ben Arfa; Demba Ba

Substitutes: Steve Harper, Davide Santon, James Perch, Dan Gosling, Sammy Ameobi, Leon Best, Shola Ameobi

Chelsea (4-3-3): Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz, John Terry (c), Ashley Cole; Ramires, Oriol Romeu, Frank Lampard; Daniel Sturridge, Didier Drogba, Juan Mata

Well at least I got the Chelski team right but certainly didnt think Lovenkrands would start :(

  5. Dunno what it is about Santon but he just doesnt seem to be flavour of this or any month :(

  6. Aye maze I think I’d have risked Raylor going to CB and bringing Santon on instead of Perch.

    TGF Tim Krul !!

  7. WTF IS GOING ON?!?! Ba doin great, Raylor and Perch are playing like their asses!!! Benny is bein kept quiet and Luiz shouldve been off ages ago… Worst call ever from ref, that was a very dodgy call!!!

  8. Our attack and midfield look very weak in possession today, time and time again we lose possession with bad passing… Hopefully AP can fix it for the 2nd half

  9. Now we need to put pressure on their back four. I’d remove Loven and bring Gosling on to bolster the midfield and push HBA further up front to work the full back and Luiz but Pardwho knows best :)

“Worst call ever from ref, that was a very dodgy call!!!”

Aye he should’ve Rob, but our luck was gannin’ to run out eventually I suppose.

  11. workyticket says:

“I could (tell) from the way you called him “Superman” Andy”.

Yeah so thats him gone in January WT :)

  12. Andy, I don’t suppose you fancy writing a report for this game?

I missed the first few minutes and I have to go out this afternoon for an important meeting.

  13. Would do but I’m off for lunch and then the cinema with the boy after this finishes. Could have a go later ?

  14. workyticket says:

“I missed the first few minutes”

So you didnt see the Luiz foul, the Lampard penalty and Fatman choking on his Pepperoni pizza ? :)

“Could have a go later ?”

Aye that would be great Andy. I’ll sort it all out and get some highlights too when I get back.

  16. Feel so robbed. The game should have been over on 2 minutes in. Took a dig into our goal difference aswell. The commentators seem so biased it’s unreal. Nothing to complain about? Ok.

I guess it’s payback for our penalty against Man United.

  17. We had as many great players outthere as downright disgracefull showings… Ryan Taylor, Simpson, Ben Arfa, Obertan and Cabaye have been torrid today while Løvenkrands, Perch, Saylor, Guthrie, Ba and most of all Krull did well.

What a frustrating game though, even with the bad performances we had enough chances to win this game and the fact that Luiz didnt see red is a disgrace worse then

  18. Andy Mac says:

“Soz but I blame Pardwho for his team selection today so I’ll mention that WT”

Aye possibly Andy, but I do think we were a bit unlucky too. Sometimes, I think that Pardew just likes to give everyone a turn regardless.

Mention whatever you like. if it’s anything like that preview, it’ll be great!

Kilgore, Aye, it wasn’t a fair reflection of the game. We need more depth though.

  19. We did not deserve to go down like that but without Saylor and Collo in the end we were left for dead… Perch and Raylor were just not good enough, is a bit harsh though that every team sends their fastest striker against Raylor, poor lad has the toughest run out every week, this time without Jonas for support… On the upside, both Ameobis were very good IMO, Ba and Guthrie put in a good performance and Krul was crazy good as always!!!

“and the fact that Luiz didnt see red is a disgrace worse then”

Aye it was a bit of a disgrace Valle, but all teams have bad luck sometimes. Even Man U did with that penalty last week and I never thought I’d see that at Old Trafford. As I wrote above though, we’ve been quite lucky so far and being philosophical about it, our luck had to run out sometime

  21. workyticket says:

“Aye possibly Andy, but I do think we were a bit unlucky too. Sometimes, I think that Pardew just likes to give everyone a turn regardless”

Yeah but can you or anyone else give me a case for playing Lovenkrands at this level ? When you take Colo and Tiote out of this side we begin to look like we did last season.

I agree we were unlucky with missed chances but thats why you have quality strikers and IMO we need quality in key positions, LB in particular.

  22. Rob says:

“Perch and Raylor were just not good enough, is a bit harsh though that every team sends their fastest striker against Raylor, poor lad has the toughest run out every week, this time without Jonas for support”

So what does that tell us Rob ? Raylor may be Ok with lesser teams but when he’s up against it he’s found wanting.

Not his fault but someone has to realise we cant afford to keep playing him with A N Other helping him out for the best part of 90 minutes. I think Jonas’s sending off had a lot to do with his contant support for Raylor !

  23. Worky… True mate, but the most frustating part of all is probably that so many of our players crumbled under pressure, simply crumbeled. I looked at the chelsea players before we started and they were sh*t scared, that showed in their game in the beginning as well, but after the first 10 minutes their players seemed to realise that our own players were just as scared of the occassion as they were… Ap asked for the fans to help them in this game, well they did, the fans were absolutely magnificent today, but if our own players cant even handle that atmosphere what are we supposed to do?

  24. with some fans if we win its nothing to do with pardew but if we lose its all his fault.
I didnt think we were that bad considering the many 1st team players that arnt playing

“Worky… True mate, but the most frustating part of all is probably that so many of our players crumbled under pressure, simply crumbeled.”

It was a funny game valle. On the other hand we had chances too and were very unlucky over that Luiz thing, and Colo. To be fair, if some of them did “crumble”, it certainly hasn’t happened very often this season, even when we lost against Man City. Also, when they scored, it was inevitable that we would leave ourselves more open trying to get one back. As I wrote above, we don’t have depth in some areas and it was always going to catch up with us at some stage.

  26. Bennyboy… Just to make it clear, i think AP is an absolute hero if its me you refer to. Todays loss was in no way his fault, nor was it really the players as a whole since a fair few of them were absolutely brilliant. As i mentioned earlier, we also had a few which were very bad though, some of them simply couldnt handle the pressure and atmosphere generated in this particular match. Cabaye wasnt the worst, but man was i disapointed in him today, he went hiding allot of the time and wasnt his usual self at all.

“Bennyboy… Just to make it clear,”

valle, it’s only a half wit called batty who has an agenda agaonst this site because he was banned. He’s constantly trying to get through here to post abuse, and he’s always pretending to be different characters to cause trouble.

Pretty sad for a forty odd year old man really, but as I wrote, he is a bit simple.

  28. Worky… Ok mate, didnt know that… Anyway, i am sure we will be ready for next match and we have a pretty easy program till we meet liverpool the 30th.

“and we have a pretty easy program till we meet liverpool the 30th.”

We shouldn’t count our chikens before they’re hatched valle ;-)

Liek ourselves, Norwich and Swansea have been a bit of a “surprise packege” so far, being relatively very small promoted teams in mid table. They’ll probably slip back in the Premiership eventually, like teams such as Hull and Blackpool before them, but we shouldn’t just assume we’ve got six points there yet!

  30. Worky… Yah, but those low fuss games are the ones i think we do well in… This one was build up to something a few of our players today simply couldnt handle (I am not looking forward to the derby on this showing!)

  31. I simply couldnt watch the game after they scored the 2nd goal, I was to frustrated. But i just saw the interview with Pardew where they mention something about the goal celebrations being over the top and AVB even apologized to AP, what was that about?

  32. Match highlights and post match interviews are up now.

Valle, did Pardew say anything about Colo and the man in the mask? I haven’t had a chance to check the interviews out yet.

  33. Yah, Saylor’s a bad one it seems :o( Colo might be ok, but nothing concrete came out about that.

“Yah, Saylor’s a bad one it seems ( Colo might be ok, but nothing concrete came out about that.”

Thanks valle. I was just watching Pardew on Sky as I noticed your comment. He was going on more about the ref on there though.

  35. Hey ! it’s all about strength in depth, without Tiote, Colo, Saylor, Jonas, Marveaux and a real LB. we are a run of the mill small squad, playing guys like Sammy, Perch, Lovenkrands and even though he comes up with a decent attempt, Raylor.
We are not close to being a top three or fourth place side and if some of the above are out for any time, perhaps not a top ten side.
Sorry to burst everyones bubble but thats a fact.
We have been both lucky and punched above our weight so far this season, dont expect it to continue.
The reason is we are a small squad and in this division
you need depth and i dont mean a bunch of unproven kids or mediocrities.
Sturridge made Raylor look awfull in the first half, but on saying that, he also made Enrique look bad while on loanlast year.
Perch is just not good enough, but what i would like to know is, “Whats up with Santon”?
He was good enough to play in “seria A” and for the Italian U21’s, and we know the Italians defend well.
So how come we have a makeshift utility player at LB ?
If this club has any intention of competing in this league, then Ashley had better dig into his pocket and bring the squad up to full strength and i dont mean more Perch’s and Williamsons, let Lovenkrands go if he wants too, he aint all that.
But you are going nowhere in this league, unless you spend on quality, and thats a fact !
