Liverpool v Newcastle United
Battling it out for sixth place this evening.
Venue: Anfield Stadium, Liverpool.
Date: Friday, 30th January, 2011.
Kick-Off: 7:45pm.
Referee: Lee Probert.

Hello, good evening and welcome to our regular match banter for this evening’s game, which sees the Magpies travelling to Anfield once again to meet Liverpool in a battle for sixth place.

For a more in depth look forward to the game, you can always check out Hugh’s excellent match preview, where you can check up on all the latest team news, squads, stats and stuff like that.

Of course, at least some of the focus this evening will be on ex Toon striker Andy Carroll, who was sold to this evening’s opposition in highly controversial circumstances 11 months ago. With his fellow striker Luis Suarez suspended for one game after giving Fulham fans the finger during Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat at Craven Cottage earlier this month, Carroll should be almost certain to start this evening. It will be interesting to see if he is still the victim of Toon boo boys now it has been revealed that both Derek Llambias and Alan Pardew misled fans over the circumstances of his departure in January.

Liverpool will be coming into this game on the back of a pair of indifferent results, with the mighty scousers only managing two draws against relegation candidates Blackburn and Wigan. Whilst Newcastle United’s recent form has hardly been sparkling either, of course we did manage to defeat another struggling team, Bolton, in our last game. But anyway, all will soon be decided!

As usual, I will be posting the teamsheets below when they finally become available, and we will also be publishing a match report and highlights after the game, which only leaves me to say:

Howay the lads!

  1. Wow… bold move Pards. Was hoping for HBA but I’m curious to see Vuckic again after WB. Lets see some more of them piledrivers Haris!

  2. If the lads put in a good shift tonight we could come away with something, not the worst time to be playing them at Anfield.

Would take a point right now no fear.

“I posted up a good stream link but it did not show up.”

I’ll check it out Phisix. Sorry about that.

  4. I’d call that a 4-5-1 myself, a strong midfield to control the centre – hope its not simply told to play for a draw.

    HWTL

  5. We need 3 points from this game bad to get back on track and to show carroll and Enrique that we dont need them.

  6. Well we may still be drawing but that was all Liverpool and we’re gannin’ to be lucky to stop them scoring again if it keeps on like that. A big team talk and a change of strategy is required at half time.

  7. The only one thing i got from these 45 mins- we can’t overjump ourselves, never, never , unless M Ashley decides to spend money for some quality. I’m sick of lucky goals and lack of any style every time we reach Anfield, Old Traford or ect..

  8. Gosling finished his 3 match ban right? Would like him on for vuckic. Gonna be a struggle this.

  9. Raylor needs to be subbed for Santon. He is always out of position, gets overrun by Johnson and Downing and he always backs off even though Guti is there to back him up.

Vuckic has done nothing either so HBA needs to come on to changes things up.

    Santon + Benny on!

  10. Making my mood bad….I wish Mike Ashley would fly his helicopter into a pylon or similar.
Not acceptable football…we create hardly nothing.
    YAWN.

Not over 38 games anyway asenski.

“I wish Mike Ashley would fly his helicopter into a pylon or similar.”

The pylon would probably come off worst SJT.

  13. Why Ben Afra stays on the bench after good performance? Newcastle is the only team in PL where Benny would be substitute. Pardew is foolish. Today I read he gave up in bringing new striker. Foolish. If he pleases Mike Ashley, don’t lie us- leave this club instead of telling us lies every transfer window.

  14. This game is pitiful, weve only had two goal attempts and one of them was a deflection for our goal.

  15. NUFC are a fookin DISGRACE.
This liverpool side is crap…we have created shit all again….any team of mugs could have at least got a draw…..absolute shit!!

  16. And Pardew says we dont need to sign anyone else. had enough of this we are completely shite. Pardew every week goes down in my estimation.

  17. Sorry to totally disagree, we just dont have strength in depth, but before third went in thought we had chance ,gerrard is diff class , and bellamy still bl**dy good sianooora…..

  18. I feel like crying. Roll on February when the transfer market is closed as we know we wont sign anyone.

  19. Think about how poor we are when such a weak Liverpool tears us.I mean as a quality, tactically ..Truly, don’t see any difference between us Norwich,Blackburn,Fulham or other teams at the bottom. In a moment like this I wish we could attract eastern billionaire or miracle happen to break the usual picture at the end- 9th,10th place and selling our best players to see them beating us with different club. Anyone believes in Demba Ba’s staying next year?
Sorry for lyrics, won’t write here soon
    Good luck lads!

“Sorry to totally disagree, we just dont have strength in depth”

But we’re only really missing Steven Taylor nzed, the rest are all first choice players.

  21. Or this season for a matter as we are not good enough and I am tired of us not even putting in a shift whereas teams like WBA ans Fulham can and will.

  22. WTF IS GOING ON?!?!?!
Surely 1 lad (Saylor) couldnt have made such an incredible difference to our whole team???????
We may as well have half a team at the moment… Vuckic will become great he just needs time AS A SUB, He should start on bench after Benny!!! I wish wish wish WISH we get 2 defenders and 1 striker in Jan… I dont care if we pay a little more, we gonna get F@%£ED the rest of the season with this crap… We need another decent finisher, dunno what happened to Best cos I had really high hopes for him this season!!! We need 1 decent CB and 1 versatile who can play across back 4, give Simmo some competition for his place!!!

  23. Agree that was awful…terrible football…..Sammy Amiobi needs to get off the coach in Accrington looks like a right gangly piece of shit like his brother.

  24. Rob-Simmo is off in Jan fella.along with a few other 1st teamers….the Ashley cash register is running dry.
    In SPORTS DIRECT WE TRUST.

  25. Crushed by poor a Liverpool side. Seems we gave up when they equalised. Not that we ever started. Didn’t recognise any of our team our there today except maybe tiote.

  26. I Think we need New owner, New manager and Old stadium’s name. That one, what Ashke did to SJP was a murder to club’s history. I really hate thim man!

  27. I could see an Enrique type player fitting in at the Toon Worky……good prospect, don’t think we could afford over 20k a week though.

  28. No way was that a free kick for the second, just knew it would hurt us.
Ba was desperately unlucky with the clearance off the line.

“I could see an Enrique type player fitting in at the Toon Worky”

£5 million SJT, Llambias and Ashley really drew that deal, perhaps the ultimate. :-)

“I would love to see all the positive people get a positive out of that match. I dare you.”

To be fair, it was Liverpool at home, and despite their sometimes erratic form recently, they were always going to be the favourites against a mid-table side like Newcastle. We were quite poor though.

  31. Phisix-Best of luck mate… A right shite performance from majority of the lads! I also cant imagine Ba being around for much longer… Even a player of pure class Cabaye has started playing kak because his team mates play worse… Lads need a good talk, lack of communication is killin us, what happend to that smooth flowing ground footy that Pards promised to Cabaye… Dunno what else to say.

“No way was that a free kick for the second, just knew it would hurt us.”

You could also say that Cabaye should have received astraight red card and been suspended for three games too Clint.

  33. Only managed to see the last 20 minutes but what I saw was terrible, no link-up play between the midfield and forwards and the 3rd goal could have been prevented if Tiote didn’t insist on mucking around with the ball on the edge of our area.

Cannot see the reasoning in starting an inexperienced Vuckic over Ben Arfa who on his day could unlock many a defence. Vuckic will be great one day but today was not the time for him to start.

  34. But at this moment in time Liverpool are not much better than we are. Most of their best players left and they signed mid table players such as Downing and Adam but they can still play decent whereas we keep playing the hoofball and dire attacking football.

We need changes, and we need players with skill on the wings. Even Downing looked class today and his rubbish.

  35. I agree Phisix, our wingers seem to run themsleves into difficult situations and lose possession or rarely have a final product.

  36. Phisix
Are you serious,Downing is and has been recoqnised as one of the best wingers in the league.
To classify this guy as rubbish, says more about your knowledge of football , than Downings abilities.
