Manchester United v Manchester United
Another weekend, another trip to Manchester.
Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester.
Date: Saturday 26 November, 2011
Kick-off: 3.00pm.
Referee: Mike Jones (replaces Phil Dowd).

Good afternoon Geordies and welcome to our regular “match banter” feature for this afternoon’s game, which sees the Magpies facing another tough game in Manchester, this time against the United lot.

For an in depth preview to the game, please check out our match preview. Also, we will also be adding the full teamsheets for the game to this post once they become available, along with a full match report and highlights when the game is over so stay tuned!

Much like last weekend, despite still being in the top four we will go into this match as underdogs, with victory eluding us at Old Trafford since the days of Joe Harvey. Our last victory, in February 1972, came exactly a week after the day that will forever live in Geordie infamy, when non-league Hereford United knocked us out of the FA Cup in a 2-1 replay victory. The week after, we beat a side which still included the likes of Charlton, Law and Best. As one of their equally great contemporaries, Jimmy Greaves once said, “It’s a fanny old game”. But getting back to the present, we’re certainly due a victory at the “Theatre of Dreams” so here’s hoping!

Finally, if you have any good links for the game to share, please feel free to share them in the comments section below!

“No, sorry worky. Got that info from another toon site and the subs weren’t poted.”

Aye, I’ve just done it. Thanks Summer.

Just looking for some links now Aussie Toon.

  4. Biggest attendance at OT this season just as it was at Citeh last week. We are everyone’s favourite Toon !

“Jonas is fookin boss eyed his final ball, passes are 9/10 shite.”

    That’s a little harsh SJT!

  6. We get a real striker in and a man that can deliver pin point crosses we will murder some teams !!

  7. The left side is annoying me, Raylor is playing like crap attack and defence wise and Guti is non existant. Guti protecting Raylor every game is costing us attacking down the left side.

  8. SJT says:

“Jonas is fookin boss eyed his final ball, passes are 9/10 shite.”

SJT if we got a decent left back who didnt need his hand holding every week then maybe Jonas could afford a little more time to concentrate on his own game ? However neither full back makes that many forward runs which is prolly down to Pardwho ?

  9. Jonas Passing has never looked good…yup works like a goodun’ but end product, goals etc have always been lacking…..that extra precision he would be in a top 5 club….oh shit I forgot he already is……haha

  10. Agree Johnny…we have everything to play for.
Give BA a bit of space of a RT set piece lock the doors we are laughing!

  11. Pretty even stats apart from corners

    Possession 52%-48%
    Corners 5 0
    Goal attempts 6 4
    On target 3 2
    Fouls 6 5
    Offside 1 2

    :)

  13. “The Mekon” Obertan is having one of his best days so far, plus Cabaye is outstanding, HBA is beginning to show what he is capeable of, but has to keep his cool.
Guthrie is covering a lot of ground and apart from Raylor,( who we have to remember is only a fill in LB) has been a bit shakey.
Ba up front is causing problems for the defenders.
This game could go either way and is there for whover wants it enough, later

  14. Problem for HBA is he needs someone on his level to work with and Ba isnt that player. Ideally a Rooney or a Hernandez type would work otherwise he ends up playing by himself.

  15. I feel sorry for Jonas. Pardwho has to stop this shite with Raylor at LB and stop putting pressure on Jonas to keep tracking back all the time. The guy looks frazzled.

  16. Five Manc players surrounding the referee, what a surprise :)

Good point especially with only ten men.

“ugly, but a points a point and some amazing saves and solid defense”

Aye, 10 men as well Johnny. We still need some defenders though.

  18. true, worky. can’t believe perch didn’t kill us. and in those last 20 min, the back 4 and krul were both amazingly lucky and amazingly good.

  19. would love to see at least another centerback. with word of coloccini almost not starting i was terrified of who’d cover. perch was my only thought and that’s enough to hide in bed all day and go nowhere near a tv screen

  20. There’s no doubt this team can defend but scoring against top sides requires more invention IMO. Crying out for a skillful, dynamic goal machine – but then again who isnt ?

Yet still fourth and a point above the Russians although Spuds now two points ahead in 3rd.

“would love to see at least another centerback.”

Even though we got away with that one, it really showed how much we need some backup in defence, especially when we were a man down, getting battered and Pardew brings on Lovenkrands! At least Perch is supposed to be a defender.

  22. agree andy. both ba and ben arfa had a couple great looks, but seemed to disappear a couple times. have to see if we really do bring in Maiga

“although Spuds now two points ahead in 3rd.”

And with a game in hand. Still, we were lucky bastads to get a point today. I’m not used to all this luck business being a Toon supporter. I can’t handle it after all this time.

  24. Wow ! I’ll take it, the point that is !
    Heroic defending!
Got to say we lucked out as far as it being a penalty, but what the hell, how many have Man.U. been unjustly awarded through the years, all evens out in the long run.
Fergie was pissed, too bad, feels it slip sliding away, Hey! cant win em all !
Couple of changes, have no idea why Pardew put in Sammy for Obertan, who had one of his best games yet.
Look I think Sammy has potential, but when it comes to defending, he is like his brother, employing the matador defense.
And, Lovenkrands for HBA, when we are a man down ?
what the hell’s wrong with Santon ?
Perhaps their may be second thoughts concerning the Simpson contract, he had a very good dame, with an amazing goal line block, that earned us the point.
Guthrie, must have covered every blade of grass on the pitch, Cabaye is an outstanding talent, Ba did his job up front with not a lot of help.
What was Jonas thinking with the tackle, i mean he knew he was already on a yellow, ah well, rush of blood to the head.
Capt. Colocinni and Saylor, what can you say, one of the best set of CD’s in the league, plus both Simpson and Raylor, played tough.
Have i forgotten anyone, well the game hero was Krul, combining with his back four defended heroically .
    Bring on Chewsea !

  25. I just realised, if Tottenham win their game in hand, they go above Man U! I love to see them fail…

  27. Yep I’d have Timmy as MOTM as well. He made the difference between a point and nowt, well played.

PS Caught this on BBC Sport

Rachel T on Twitter: “Did Wenger REALLY say “We are reliant on Robin” ? :)

  28. I mentioned last week Jonas was going to get sent off. Shame I couldn’t have dreamt the lotery numbers aswel.

  29. Before the Mancs whinge on about dodgy penalties, it has been asked how did Rooney stay on the pitch after this ? Yet SFA claims we fouled them all over the pitch.

  30. Andy, you’re absolutely right i couldn’t believe they let that go. and then the outright shove on jonas without even going for the ball… i know we racked up the yellows and the penalty was lucky but jesus, they escaped with quite a bit

  31. The manure players are still on the pitch – so they think we havn’t played any of the big teams – we have now!

“The manure players are still on the pitch”

I wanted Fergiecam so I could watch him having a fit over that penalty. He doesn’t usually get good penalty shouts given against him there, let alone dubious ones.

  33. I know it’s been said on this thread already but well done to Simmo for hanging in there and particularly for his goal line clearance. Wonder what they’re saying on .com about him now ?

Meanwhile the moaning Mancs over at Radio 5 are complaining bitterly without any acknowldegement of the Evra handball nor the Rooney attack on Colo but that’s what you get from whinging Mancs – a lop sided view of life :)

  34. Well got my wish, at least in the first half, great game to watch and it became obvious we were not here to to be beaten as usual, by taking the game to them,
Think they got a bit of a surprise, when they found temselves on the back foot and having to defend.
But on saying that, most clubs sense any weakness, as with Man.U. and Chelsea at present, of course Arsenal lost respect seasons ago.
Then again Man.Citeh were fortunate to beat QPR recently, so it’s gotta be, no respect!

Of course the second half was a different story, we did’nt supply the same pressure on them, and were lucky to get the penalty, but we defended like Trojans and managed to get the point, yeaaaah !
I can live with that !

  35. Match highlights are up now lads.

As usual I will try to update then with some better, longer ones, and get the post match interviews up as well when they become available.

  36. Newcastle defender Danny Simpson on Twitter: “What a game, feel so proud 2 part of this newcastle team! Great point against utd, lads played well n dug in deep at the end. Hope the fans have a massive night tonight”

and thanks for the highlights WT :)

“and thanks for the highlights WT”

Nee botha Andy. I’m trying to get the post match interviews, Fergie thought it was a “travesty”

Thanks bluemoon, same to you and aye, it would do us a favour if you beat Liverpool. Poor Fergie, I’ve never seen a penalty like that given at Old Trafford before.
