    “Thanks Worky! A narrow escape…”

Nee botha Paul. I’ll try to see if some longer highlights and interviews become available later. Off to bed now as it’s past two in the morning over here now!

  2. Amazing goals, im so happy Sammy scored. The game changed when him and Vuckic came on. I wish Best wasn’t offside when he scored because it would have been a nice confidence boost to score a goal. Last but not least Ba is really not impressing me so far, I know its early but I am starting to get worried especially since it doesnt look like we will get a quality striker in.

  3. So which top 4 team will we draw away for the next round? I’m just hoping we get a decent run of matches. It’ll give the fringe players more playing time and help get ’em sharp.

  4. Vuckic has to be our best reserve CM once Barton leaves.

    Team I’d play against Fullham:

    ———Krul ————
    Jonas —-Ba—–Marveaux–

  5. Good game for the neutrals but nerve wracking for the fans. My view of the players:

Krul: Excellent again. Will be our No1 for years to come. Can’t see Harper getting back, sad really.

Simpson: Ok. But doesn’t get forward enough to support the attack. Needs to improve that part of his game.

Raylor: Good. Again played out of position, some dodgy moments but did well. Great dead ball specialist.

    Williamson: Looked hesitant. Not confident.

Saylor: Excellent. Very positive and commanding. Back to his best. Good understanding with Colo.

Colo: Have we ever had a better more cultured calm centre half? Better than Woodgate. Leads by example.

Marveaux: Showed glimpses of what he can do. Tried hard in first half. Needs time to fit into team.

Cabaye: Excellent. Covers the whole pitch. Gets stuck in. Excellent passer of the ball. Going to be a top player for us.

Gosling: Not bad but not good. Too many wayward passes. Needs more match time.

Lovenkrands: Played out of position. Couldn’t / didn’t contribute much.

Ba: Very poor. Poor touch. Big bloke but like Shola doesn’t impose himself or dominate the defenders.

Best: Excellent. Always in the thick of it. Good header of the ball. Marginally offside for his goal.

Sammy: Excellent: Injected pace, unpredictability & directness. Terrific goal.

Vuckic: Excellent. Like Sammy injected directness and ability to get passed defenders. Unlike previous years, now looks ready for the first team. Good vision. Confident. Stylish. Links the play. Definately not a winger. Best position between midfield and striker.

Did we miss Barton? Yes in the sense that Lovenkrands was out of position on the right. Is Barton better than Gosling? Yes but the centre of midfield will be Tiote and Cabaye. Our right side is weak as Barton drifts infield and Simpson doesn’t bomb forward.

Would Raylor be better than Simpson (once we get a left back)? Probably. Bonus is his free kicks.

Who should lead the line? Best did more than enough. He is better than Ba and Lovenkrands. Possibly better than Shola, certainly more mobile.

Who covers for Ben Arfa? Vuckic looks like he could.

  6. Apparantly Ba is fasting for the month of Ramadan – surprised Pards put him in team if he hadnt eaten since before dawn !

  7. watching young gosling trying to run around reminds me of the lad we signed a few years ago – michael bridges – because of prev injuries his career at the toon was over before it got started – i really hope this lad doesn’t suffer the same way.

  8. Great win, highlighted lack of striker quailty to those that hold the coffers, but also gave us the win as a treat. The Sun has us done, on Pierters for £6.7m and 5 years. Plus Roux for £7m i think….

With that in mind: this for sunday?

    In :
    Erik Pieters, LB
    Nolan Roux, ST
    Darnell Situ, CB

    Starting XI

    Sub :
S.Ameobi, Best, Lovenk, Ba, (HBA), Ranger (hope we sell to Birm)

    Marveaux, Abeid, Moyo
    Guthrie, Gosling, Smith

    Situ, Willo, Kadar
    Simmo, Ferguson

    Harper, Soderberg.

  9. Milner @ 12

    Starting XI

I would play Roux instead of Shola (I would even play Best in instead Shola!). Isn’t Roux a centre forward?

I would play Vuckic in the hole between Roux and the midfield. Obertan and Jonas are runners whereas Vuckic is a playmaker who can bring others into play, get past his man and can support the centre forward and score himself.

  10. @411

I am muslim and am fasting right now. It is actually permissible not to fast if you have a physically demanding job, you can just put it off (not saying you can put off all of ramadan, but a day here and a day there). Ba should just not fast on game days and make it up right after Ramadan (There would be only 3 or 4 days to make up). The Saudi U20 team played in the world cup in Columbia and they did not fast on game days. This is something that is very normal in the muslim world so I dont understand how someone can use that as an excuse.

“I am muslim and am fasting right now. It is actually permissible not to fast if you have a physically demanding job”

That’s a very good point SaudiToon. I was discussing the same thing with a Muslim friend a few weeks ago, but I’d forgotten about it.

  12. I saw Haris Vuckic play at Elland Road against Leeds in Pre Season. Was VERY impressed at the guys skill, and complete compusure for his goal! Can’t wait to see him starting. We have the new Beardsley in our midsts!

Watch this space :) – Im also undecided on Ba. I imagine like all strikers, the confidence comes flooding in after a goal or two. Let’s not panic just yet though. Do i need to remind people of a certain Fernando Torres after he moved to Chelsea? …actually, has he scored a goal for them yet in a competitive premier league game? …strange

  13. Thanks workyticket!

To be honest, just seeing Ba I think he is simply still out of shape, I dont think there is a problem with his fasting. If he isnt in shape yet that is a problem, but hopefully he can turn it around because if he cant its going to be a long year.

  14. Why u wana sell ranger? I think he,s got the skills 2 be a sensational player given a bit more game time! I’d like to see him start a game I’m that confident.
