Ba deal sealed – Will he be a good signing for Newcastle?

Demba Ba signs for Newcastle.
Welcome to St James's!
Newcastle United have announced on their official website that a deal has finally been struck for ex West Ham player, Demba Ba, in what is thought to be a three year deal.

This would take the player to 29, which seems to be a new ‘magic number’ when it comes to Newcastle player’s and their contracts.

On his signing, Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew said:

“Demba made a great impression with West Ham last season and is a great signing for the club. He has pace, excellent technical abilty, is good in the air, and, it goes without saying, has the ability to consistently find the back of the net. Moreover he has a great passion to play for Newcastle United.”

While this may be true, there is also the issue of his medical history with a degenerative knee problem which has seen him failing at least one medical in the past, at Stoke City. It is to be hoped that something has been stipulated in his contract regarding this issue should things go a little ‘pear shaped’ in that department.

So, with all of the above in mind, do YOU think that Ba will be a good signing for Newcastle United or not? Please leave your comments and/or answer our poll below.

Finally, Welcome aboard Demba!

Poll.

  1. Goal record at both West Ham (albeit very short term) and Hoffenheim shows the guy has a good eye for goal, and what we’ve seen of him in the premiership so far seems to indicate that he won’t take too long to settle into english football.

Also, the fact that he managed to chalk up over 100 games in 3 and a half years at Hoffenheim seems to indicate that this degenerative knee problem hasn’t kept him out too much so far.

However I do hope that the club have taken the proper precautions though, just in case his knee deteriorates faster than anticipated so that we’re not lumbered with him long term if he can’t compete any more.

  2. Good signing just hope that Pards and co don’t think that this is the only striker we need, one more bare minimum.

  3. Good signing but I got a sneaky suspicion that we might get another top notch Striker in. NR. Shirt is still Vacant!

  4. he looks a good signing on the face of it,but i hope this isn’t the man to replace carroll.i just hope we sign another quality striker,as i dont want to see shola amoebi anywhere near the first team, unless in an emergency.i’m still to be convinced this fat f**ker will put his hand in his pocket.

“I mean the NR9 is still Vacant”

Perhaps they don’t just want to give it to a brand new signing flash, but to someone who has proved themselves at the club over a period of time?

    I divven’t knaa.

  6. Ba has reportedly “earned” a £2m signing on fee coupled with his “relegation clause” at WHU maybe the Fatman wanted him for his “ducking and diving” abilities ? Having said that he looks a better player than Best who, when he goes, will probably pay Ba’s sign on fee one way or another :)

PS Scotty degenerative means “getting steadily worse” so Ba’s knee problem aint gonna get better is it ?

  7. his interview is on the sky sports video section now.
right i’m of for several jars.

  8. Yeah I know what it means Andy, I’d think that was quite obvious by what I wrote.

Where exactly do you get that I said it was gonna get better?

Once again AndyMac has tried to call me out on something and got it completely wrong. Where exactly do I say anything even remotely like it’s going to get better?

  11. I think he’ll be good. Without his knee problems we would have had to shell out quite a bit to get a player of his class. If he can score 12-15 goals next season I would be happy.
    Welcome Aboard Demba!!!!

  12. I think more on the lines of 15-18 goals a season with the players easy to achieve with ability great signing will be good for us just get the players mentioned earlier ZOG,BARBETTA,MATUIDI,ERDING

  13. positive signing this.i wonder just how bad his knee condition is.i’m pretty sure it’s not the type that’ll cripple him not at least till he’s past 40-ish.
well,i do hope we get cover for our full back positions.and i might get hated for this but i believe the mackems have a rather good Argentinean right back whom their manager doesn’t regard much too highly.just saying he might be good although i only read as much on some internet article so…
