Newcastle United captain, Kevin Nolan has come out and apologised for the teams woeful performance against Stevenage Borough in the F.A. Cup third round, which saw Stevenage winning in a convincing 3-1 victory. He also commented on his “disappointment” at the shock result, and that Stevenage thoroughly desrved the result. He said:

“I don’t think you could question the attitude of the lads, they all wanted to do the right thing.

“The fact is, it just didn’t happen.

“You had 11 lads from Stevenage who probably wanted it a bit more than us and that’s the most disappointing thing.

“We knew it was going to be tough with a big crowd and everything. I thought we responded really well in the first half, a few of the lads looked a bit leggy in the second.

“We weren’t very good. We weren’t how we’ve been over the last few games and we knew they’d give it a good go and they did. They fully deserved the win.

“This is going to give us a kick in the cojones, a massive one, and we have to respond.

“We have to make sure that come the end of the season Newcastle United are still a Premier League team and when we played Stevenage next year, we come down and do the business.

“When we get one goal back we don’t expect to go straight down the other end and lose another one.

“We wish them the best but we wanted a good cup run and it’s very disappointing to come away not in the hat. It’s probably going to hit a lot of the lads even more when the draw for the fourth round is made.

“All we can do is really apologise to all the fans who made a massive journey to get down here. They were brilliant again, we ask them to stick with us for another important game next weekend.”

Oh well, onwards and upwards, and here’s hoping that the lads put in a much better performance against the Mackems on Sunday. Meanwhile, Stevenage will go on to face a tie with Reading in the fourth round of the Cup.

  2. Nolan says you can’t question the attitude of the lads but then states that the Stevenage players wanted it more so surely that is contradictory. I also thought the team that we put out was unbalanced why have two right footed players on the left wing. Why play long ball football against Stevenage as well it is surely what they would be used to and we played right into their hands. We have to massively improve for the mackems game otherwise we will get a hiding. Dissapointing to lose Tiote as well.

    Ice, I looked that up for you quickly and it appears to be a known problem. It’s not this sites fault for once! Have you seen your ISP or the people you bought it from about it?

    my sons and mine just keep losing connection (sperate laptops) we cant repair it… if we click disable then reconnect it works for 5 mins…

    i have given it a yellow card and a stern talking to but i am going to get all “batty” with it very soon.. u think a new one is needed??

  7. Ice – It’s not your browser is it? I use to have hue problems with IE losing connection. Changed to Firefo and it is all tickety-boo now :)

    i use ie8 so its not that pal its just being a gypsy mutter mutter but thanks for helping i need all the help i can i may just beat the thing with a stick

    Nee botha, Ice. Have you tried resetting the router to it’s original default settings? If that doesn’t work, I would recommend seeing your supplier. Hugh might know something about this sort of thing too.

WORKY cheers mate i will try resetting it but its buried behined the sofa etc so i best supervise the wife while she pulls it out.. i will press the reset button and let her put everything back…. hey somone has to be the brains and somone needs to be the brawn.. best wait till she has finished washing the motor tho i dont want to push it :)

  12. Indeed the fans, especially those who travelled deserve an apology and to attempt to find excuses for a lethargic display is a no starter.
    The excuse of we were tired, is an insult, how can highly trained athletes, who`s only goal is to play football, be tired ?
    There`s something of a Jeckle and Hyde nature about this side,a team that thrashes Villa & Sunderland, yet allows the likes of Blackpool and other`s to beat us at home ?
    There`s an uncertainty with each game as to which side will show up and it`s also obvious that niether CH or Pardew could do much about it during the interval`s.
    The fact we need additional quality players is apparent,
    you cant rely on kids and second tier players and not be found out in this league.
    But to convince Ashley on that subject, is a tough task,
    guess we will have to hope for a continuation of punching above our weight and eventual EPL survival.
    Cause here`s where the money is !

  13. Icedog/Toonsy, i had the same problem and by process of elimination discovered it was my browser, Google Chrome, i uninstalled it and have gone back to Firefox and its working champion.

  14. BBB cheers m8 maybe u missed but on a previous comment i was saying my son is on firefox and i use internet explorer so it cant be that.. think i have a makem router or something

    True Chuck, but to me that’s usually a sign of a team that is developing and hasn’t quite achieved consistency yet. We have gone through alot since that awful season of relegation and the team has gone through a hell of alot of changes since then with many players going and many coming in, and of course, the ridiculous sacking of our previous manager to upset the recovery process even further. These things take time to work and there may be more surprising results along the way.

    Maybe thats the answer, whenever Toon underperform we can all take it in turns to kick Pardwho in the Cojones :)
