Newcastle United v Fulham match highlights video.

Highlights of yesterday’s draw with Fulham at St James’s Park. Despite a seemingly poor away form, Mark Hughes’s Cottager’s are a well disciplined team who are very hard to break down, and so it proved yesterday with the match ending in a scoreless draw, despite a few near misses and a fairly spirited ending to the game from the Magpies.

Post match interview videos with Chris Hughton and Mark Hughes are available here, and Toonsy’s exceellent match review of the game here.

  1. fair play to fulham for coming in ready to play footy unlike stroke, blackbum, wigan…
Guthrie looks the heir apparent to barton.
Any ideas on how to get jonas going? He seems to be pressing last 3 games or so. Maybe a switch in flanks or a seat on the bench soon…

  2. I notice Shaun Wright Phillips is happy to go out on loan. He would be perfect for us on the right.

  3. i don’t think swp fits in with the kind of player hoots likes. Hoots seems to like players who get stuck in and have a good engine. Swp tends to drift out of games. Mind, if his wages are sorted, it is just a loan so it would be a good shout as he’d give us something slightly different than what we have atm.

  4. Goal! Chelsea 0, Sunderland 3. Danny Welbeck (Sunderland) right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner.

    8O 8O

  5. A.Cole what the on earth was that? This could be a big dent on Chelsea’s title ambitions. What a good time to play Chelski lucky cheesy chip munchers from wearside.

  6. I don’t agree anymore with the people saying Gyan was a panic buy and not worth the money, he’s scored in about every game he’s played. How much did we pay for Owen again?

  7. I would be delighted about Chelsea getting beat if it wasn’t Sunderland. One thing to renember though. We beat Sunderland 5-1. In 2 weeks we will beat Chelsea 8-1. ;)

  8. Utter Shitty Title.

Sunderland have produced one of the finest away performances in the history of the Premier League by hammering Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

  9. How the feck did the mackems pull that off..and they didn’t even have Bent on ;/. Looks like we need Gyan and Bent to break both their legs or summit.
Considering their sh1te away record they’ll be loving this ;/ even takes some of the pain out of us crushing them I’d imagine..damnit :(!

  10. Even I must admit, if Gyan keeps this up for a few more weeks I may have to concede that I was wrong about him.

The funny thing is, he looks poor for 75% of the game, but then bags himself a goal. Madness.

  11. saw the makems play against spurs and now chelsea and tell you what missed a trick with Michael Turner, seems a good player, unlike Beckford, who has been shat!!

  12. Don’t give a toss what mackems did, we already thrashed em – SWP wages are to high for us even on loan, personally think he’s a bit crap

  13. ‘The funny thing is, he looks poor for 75% of the game, but then bags himself a goal. Madness’

Isnt that usually the case with all the best strikers though.

  14. Just ALL strikers,
especially as viewed through the amazingly jaundiced eye of supporters.
They’re brilliant when they score, yet shite when thy don’t.

  15. 4411 – He’s better than what we currently have and as a short term solution he’d be perfect.

Can anyone tell me why Vuckic isn’t getting a look in, when its quite clear we need a bit of creative spark in our home games?

  16. SWP is a like Routledge Jay earns about ten times more. A David Bentley is the type of player who would be great crossing for Carroll. Shame he would also be expensive and he is on mega bucks at Spurs.

  17. Vuckic shouldn’t have any problems with the physical aspect of the EPL, he’s huge for a midfielder. Can tell when watching him that he is gonna be a real quality player he just has that touch and football brain about him. Souldn’t be too long before he is getting a chance if Nolan gets injured I would try him out. The only problem is him and Ranger still look a bit light on experience.

  18. DJG – Only one way to overcome the lack of experience.

From the little I’ve seen of Vuckic he looks like he’d be able to spot a pass through the middle of the park rather than crossing on site of Carrol.

    Suppose Hughton has his reasons.
Wonder if he’ll go back to 4-5-1 now…

  19. Stuart Only one way to overcome the lack of experience.

you hit the nail on the heed mate. I can remember Carroll running about like a heedless chicken for most of the time untill he got a bit of experience now he is the main man. Its amazing what happens to some players when someone shows them a bit of faith ;)

    Very good assessment, DJG.

Dave, He used to remind me of an overenthusiatic Great Dane (the dog, not Lovenkrands).

Thats the thing, do we go for experience and try to get points in every game or do we give some of these plays playing hours and experience but do the fans gets on their backs if they arn’t getting results. Imo we haven’t missed Harper at all. Krul has yes made some mistakes but also pulled off some blinder saves that Harper isn’t really capable of and the more games he gets the more he is ironing out these errors and marshalling his defenders ect better than Harps and Given ever did. That has been a real suprise to me like because I knew he had potential but I though we would be hoping for Harper to recover quickly and thats not happening.

  23. Dear Chris, please could you try out the following team for me as soon as Joey Barton is back?

    ————————- KRUL ———————–
    — S TAYLOR —– SOL ———— COLO ——– ENRIQUE
    ———————– TIOTE ————————-
    ——— BARTON —– ———— JONAS ————-
    ———————— VUCKIC ———————–
    ———— RANGER ————— CARROLL ———–

    Subs — Kadar — Ferguson — Airey — Guthrie — Routledge — Soderberg — Nolan

    Kind Regards

“but do the fans gets on their backs if they arn’t getting results.”

Th answer to that will be yes….

  25. GEORDIE69
I agree that maybe a change could be benifical offensivley, however breaking up our defence that I can’t remember looking more solid makes no sense. Every coach in the world will tell you that for defences to be effective they need a sustained period of time together, not broke up after every poor result/performance. Just look at Chelsea’s today!

I can’t help but think people have short memories when they say we should drop one of the defence.

Apart from that, I think DJG put it well enough above.

  26. I’m not too sure the suppoerts would get on their back if they tried things. Supporters do go easyier on the younger players. There was a moment in the match against Blackburn when Ranger made a great run but then cocked it up at the end, but the crowd applauded.

As for going with experience or youth, I really don’t think that should come into it. If we need a bit of creativity and a young lad has it, play him or at least bring him on from the bench.

This will probably have people scratching their heads but I’m not too sure Nolan gives us as much in centre midfield has he does playing off a front man. I know he scored three against the Mackems but in the middle he has looked a little lost in the last couple of games.

I seen a few passes from Barton on Wednesday and I just thought “he would be so much more dangerous in the middle”.

We need a good right winger who can cross the ball and we can then get Barton in the middle. Dare I say R Taylor? The right winger we play cross on site from anywhere anyway, we might has well have someone who we know can cross a ball.

  27. Stuart79

I think you’ve got it spot on there, Nolan works hard tracking back and that shouldn’t be forgotton, but when he’s not amongst the goals, (which is enough for some people), he doesn’t seem to do enough getting forward for me. He doesn’t really create anything at all through the middle which is why everything is going down the wings or straight over the top to Carroll. Nolan is best ‘poaching’ in the penalty area with other people creating and him there to finish it off. Vuckic on the other hand is a different type of attacking midfielder. I think he would try and get the ball and dribble with it. He has all the attributes to be a good LB imo but they must have thought he’d be wasted there, and he would.

  28. Ashley seems to be building this magical team for the future.

    ————–Krul————
    Simpson-S.Taylor-Kadar-Enrique
    ————-Tiote————
    LuaLua——Vuckic——-Benny
    ———Ranger–Carroll——

    Hope it works like. :)

  29. Its always good to blood the youngsters and see what they can do…but this season is all about survival. Literally, that is it. Bar injury theres no way i’d start picking the younger ones this season in favour of the older lads with experience. Shola’s all round game has been pretty awesome so far this season I’ve got to say, and he’s put himself far and away ahead of Ranger as another striker, or Vuckic as a supporter. Definitely earned his starts.

With Nolan’s goal contribution both last year and this year he’s got to be picked over Vuckic every time, despite the pace or lack of creativity. If this disgruntles the younger players then I’m sorry but they’ll have to deal with it, next year perhaps they can get more regular run outs when we’ve molded ourselves into an effective team.

Unless the older players literally stop performing I don’t think we should throw in the younger ones just to see if they can pull something off..we need to secure ourselves, and if its boring or just scrapes us survival then its worth it by a mile in my book.

  30. Eee its good to see Take That back!

Off to see them next year at Wembley. Its probably the only way I’ll get to Wembley like.

Stuart, I’ve telt ye before, there’s no need to beat about the bush with all this talk of white Audi TTs and “Take That” concerts. If you’ve got something to tell us I’m sure that we’ll all be very supportive. It takes a brave man to come out of the closet and find his true self. ;-)

  32. Well done the mugs. Now back 2 reality cos yr porple patch just finished. All these silly results up and doon the league are hopefully just creating a more level playing field for everyone so lets just keep wa heeds doon and get on with it. Only prob is that Manure hav,nt kicked in proper yet and lets hope they do,nt.
Can,t agree more with givin the bairns a chance and as servival is paramount, perhaps the F A Cup is their best oppertunity this term. If it works it works, if not, nowt lost.

  33. Watching MOTD, the second Sunderland goal is quality penetrative passing and movement. These are things we just don’t do. We need to sign a quality striker and winger. Players who know when to pass and when to make a run.

  34. When did manure start playin in stripes like.? Radgie b4stads. Never shut them up now 4 a while. They,ll be dinin out on this for donkeys.

  35. porcie

Micky Horswill will dine out on this for the rest of the season. If Chelsea beat us at home they will go on about it for another couple of weeks, he’s still going on about the Blackpool game and the ‘donkey’s’. Well they haven’t played them yet so he wants to shut his mouth. :)

  36. Like I said in previous, must keep wa heeds doon and plough onwards. Got a strange feelin that we,re going to klick in shortly and batter someone. Its not as if we aint creatin any chances. Watch this space.
