Shane Ferguson interview – Looking forward to stepping up in the Championship.

Winger, Shane Ferguson, the 17 year old Newcastle United prospect who can now boast of a full international cap for Northern Ireland despite his young age, today shared his thoughts on his new 3 year deal at the club. Ferguson was speaking in Newcastle while most of his teammates are in Ireland, working on pre-season training and the forthcoming match against Shamrock Rovers. Firstly, he tackled the lack of a full manager at present.

“Everything is still up in the air in regards a new manager and the possible new ownership, but I am only focusing on pre-season training”.

He then went on to talk about his chances for moving up in the Newcastle hierarchy of players, despite his caps at all levels with Northern Ireland, he is yet to figure in United’s first team. He said:

“I will be working hard and hoping to push my way into both the reserve and first teams.

“To be honest it was not a hard decision for me to stay at Newcastle because we are a big club.

“Although we were relegated to the Championship, I feel the younger players like myself may be given a chance because of it.”

He also had a few words to say about his fellow Irish teammate, Michael McCrudden, the versatile forward / winger who will also be staying at Newcastle. (more…)
