We need a win!
As fellow contributor, Clint, has already written a more thoughtful and estimable piece looking forward to the visit of Wolves to the hallowed turf of St James’s Park, in this one I will be more direct and just concentrate on matters such as team news, stats, what the managers have been saying pre match etc.

On statistics, at least some of them haven’t been looking very good for The Magpies recently. We have only managed one victory in our last ten games, haven’t won at home since January 5th, and were pummelled 0-4 in our last game against Stoke, who are a similar team to Wolves. This fairly dismal record under Alan Pardew means that we have now slipped to within four points of the relegation zone after a fairly comfortable start to the season.

Enough misery though.

Our previous game at their place was a hard fought 1-1 draw, with the referee turning a blind eye to some decidedly iffy “tackles” (for want of a better word) on midfielder, Joey Barton by his opposite number in the Wolves team, Karl “hatchetman” Henry. Speaking on the match to come, Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew hinted at Wolves’ rather unsubtle approach to the beautiful game when he said: (more…)
