Going, going...gone.It would seem Wigan’s Spanish gaffer, Roberto Martinez, could be expecting some added flair to his side, with news that Newcastle target, the talented and highly-rated winger-cum-striker Victor Moses from Crystal Palace, has signed for The Latics.
According to Sky Sports News, the player’s agent Tony Finnegan, has confirmed to them that the player has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Wigan, after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
Wigan were rumoured to be interested at the beginning of the week and were part of a handful of Premiership clubs with an apparent interest him. We’re alleged to have made a £1.5m bid, alongside Nottingham Forest and West Brom, all of which were turned down and it seems like Wigan were prepared to pay a fee of £2.5million to seal the deal.
The writing was on the wall really, after Palace boss Neil Warnock insisted he’d be going to a Premiership club, because of all the things he is, Warnock’s generally not a bullsh*tter. The move was expected to go through quickly, with the emphasis on the administrators trying to ease Palace’s financial burdens and it’s likely that more assets will leave before the end of the window. Take a bow lads?Newcastle United ‘new boys’ Wayne Routledge and Mike Williamson having been saying all the right things, as you’d expect, ahead of tonight’s game against Crystal Palace. Despite the fact that Williamson is yet to be officially unveiled as the board apparently deal with the complications of payments to Portsmouth and knock-on payment Watford, the player himself is sounding confident of the transfer going through. Workyticket sounds canny confident too, so I’m going with it.
The club are allegedly hopeful of the transfer being finalised in time for him to play a part in tonight’s game, though he’s not played a first team game in five months. The rumours are that should the paperwork come through in time and he is able to play, then Tamas Kadar will fill in at right back, with Williamson joining Coloccini in the middle of defence.
On speaking about his future at the club Willamson said:
“This is a dream move for me, and I can’t wait to make my debut at St James’s Park,”
“The fans here are incredible, and now I just want to go out and do my best for them.”
“It’s a great move for me, and I just want to get on with the challenge of promotion.”(more…)
One of these will own the club. There are rumours that Newcastle United will make an announcement about the sale of the club on Monday, although I can’t find a direct quote from anyone at the club about this announcement. Other rumours suggest it may be late next week before we find out anything.
Sky Sports claims that talks are continuing with Barry Moat and two other consortia, as does The Guardian, and both claim some sort of announcement is set for Monday.
The Telegraph claims that negotiations between Moat and Ashley are at an advanced stage and some sort of deal could be closed next week. They also mention that Barclays would like to see a reduction in the £40m loan the club uses to operate before they’ll stamp their authority on any deal for Barry Moat. (more…)
