Not only has Mike Ashley been unable to keep Rafa Benitez at the club, with the Spaniard agreeing to become Dalian Yifang’s new manager, but Ayoze Perez has left, signing for Leicester City for no less than £30 million.
But will the second big departure of the summer result in several other key players vacating St James Park? Sean Longstaff has been linked continuously with Manchester United. Rondon: Should he stay or should he go? With the season coming to an end and no permanent deal being handed to Salomon Rondon, the only conclusion you can draw is that the Venezuelan won’t become a permanent signing at Newcastle. There is obviously room for this situation to change and Rondon’s future may depend on who owns Newcastle United, with talk of a summer takeover being suggested.
If one was to do a very hurried connecting of the dots then it’s possible to imagine a scenario where Rafa Benitez is hanging on to see if he will be given any substantial funds to spend over the summer, and if so, Rondon may not be needed anymore as the Spaniard looks for quality long-term signings rather than problem solvers.
