It’s hasn’t always been an easy watch this season, but a run of one defeat in seven games looks to have saved this campaign for Newcastle.

Bookmakers have pushed the Magpies as far out as 14/1 to go down, compared to 1/9 for a Fulham side suddenly in big trouble below them. While the job isn’t quite complete yet, Newcastle fans can breathe a little easier after several months of watching the team play toothless football on its way into a relegation fight. (more…)

Then again, maybe not in a season which has so often been about hanging on in defence and hoping for a goal on the break.

Whilst Callum Wilson and Allan St Maximin might be grabbing most of the praise up at the front, it is stand in goalkeeper Karl Darlow who has really given Steve Bruce a ‘selection headache’ (as they say) whenever Martin Dubravka recovers from his heel injury.

Whilst it has been a fairly average season for the Magpies so far, by recent standards anyway with the team currently lying in 13th, same as they finished last season, poor Darlow has received a battering in goal, fending off more shots than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League. His record so far this season being 39 saves and 1 penalty save. He is also currently Newcastle United’s most highly rated player on Whoscored, beating Allan St Maximin and Callum Wilson to the top spot. (more…)

The 2020-21 Premier League season is well underway and this year’s Newcastle squad has a very different feel to last season. In classic Newcastle fashion though, despite the promise of a newly formed squad, results have been mixed. It’s best to seek guidance and opinion from professionals when trying to predict any fixture in the Premier League this season, but this is especially true of the Toon Army given their revised attacking options.

Bruce himself has come under criticism and pressure from fans since joining the club, and many have questioned the transfers brought into Newcastle in recent years, with Mike Ashley usually the first to be blamed. The Newcastle Chairman has given the club a cash injection under Bruce’s tenure, and it’s fair to say that the jury is still out on most of the recruitment. (more…)
