Hello, good afternoon and welcome to our penultimate “match banter” for the season.

This time of course, the Magpies face Queens Park Rangers and with Alan Pardew once again seemingly unable to find a win for love or money, each game becomes ever more crucial in the Toon’s bid to stave off yet another relegation. With our next opponents being Champions League chasing Arsenal, this clash with one of the three teams who have actually managed to be worse than us so far this season has assumed even more importance. West Ham v Newcastle United.
Will Carroll and Nolan be kept at bay?
Venue: The Boleyn Ground, London.
Date: Sat 4th May, 2013.
Kick off: 3.00pm.
Referee: Phil Dowd.
UK TV: None.

Well it’s all starting to come to the boil now, with Newcastle United still uncertain of their future in the Premier League next season.

For the second time since Derek Llambias became Managing Director in June, 2008, the Magpies face the abyss. As events unfold in East London, it will be tempting to cast the occaisional glance at events over at the Hawthorns too, where West Brom will be taking on our game in hand relegation rivals, Wigan.

It could well be two very familiar faces who cause us the most problems this afternoon with West Ham’s two top goalscorers, Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan putting old allegiances aside. Carroll in particular has has come into some good form after recovering from his last injury. In his last four games, Carroll has scored four goals for the Hammers and seems to be back to his old self again.

West Bromwich Albion vs Newcastle United match banter!

WBA v Newcastle United.
Pardew really can’t lose this one!
Venue: The Hawthorns, West Bromwich.
Date: Sat 20th April, 2013.
Kick off: 3.00pm.
Referee: Mike Jones.
UK TV: None.

Hello, good afternoon and welcome to our “match banter” feature for this afternoon’s game against West Bromwich Albion.

Though we are sitting in 13th going into the game and we won’t be relegated if we lose, I think it would be fair to say that Geordies all over will be pressing panic buttons if we don’t get at least a draw this afternoon.

Blaming tiredness for the club’s poor form this season, Pardew seemed almost relieved that European football will not hinder Newcastle United’s form as it has with other clubs in European competition such as Barcelona, Manchester United and of course our Euro nemesis, Benfica. In one of his pre match interviews, he spoke on this, putting the tiredness excuse to bed (so to speak): (more…)

Newcastle United vs Sunderland match banter!

Newcastle United v Sunderland.
Mackems: In trouble.
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle.
Date: Sun 14th April, 2013.
Kick off: 12.00.
Referee: Howard Webb.
UK TV: Sky Sports.

Well it’s that time again, the time when we simply must beat the Mackems, especially so as it’s our home soil that will be sullied by the visiting vagrants of Wearside, and of course their new Fascist manager, Paolo di Canio.

Di Canio’s fascist past has even made the national news, not to mention topical news shows like “Have I got News for You,” and fans have been told that any Roman saluting at St James’ will ruthlessly stamped out by the local Gestapo, but I daresay there’ll be a few give us a wave Paolo’s being shouted this afternoon.

However, the controversy preceding this match has come from other quarters, most notably the revelation that the Mackems’ Texan owner, Ellis Short, was overheard saying “Why don’t you just f off?” to Magpie Silver Supremo, Alan Pardew, at our last game back in October when Pardew tried to shake Short’s hand. This was probably in response to Pardew’s handbags with Paulo di Canio’s predecessor, Martin O’Neill. Bairns will be Bairns. (more…)
