A familiar pose for Almiron since he came to Tyneside. When Newcastle United signed Miguel Almiron from MLS side, Atlanta United on January 31st for a potential fee of up to £21 million, the signing was met with great excitement from the Newcastle fanbase, which was partly due to Almiron’s impressive 2018 record of 12 goals and 14 assists for Atlanta in US Major League Soccer, and partly down to the fact Mike Ashley had finally surpassed the previous club record signing of £16 Million, set back in 2005. However, since a seemingly promising start to life as a Newcastle player, Almiron has now made 20 appearances in the Premier League, with no goals or assists to show. Steve Bruce: Not a big fan of tactics. Newcastle United currently sit 19th in the Premier League and with Manchester United and Chelsea eagerly waiting around the corner, it seems unlikely Steve Bruce’s men will be rising up the table any time soon. There is an argument that it is too early to worry, as Newcastle were in fact sitting on fewer points this time last season. However, when comparing the same fixtures, Newcastle accumulated 9 points last season, while only picking up 5 this season. This begs the question; where are Newcastle going wrong? (more…)
