Can Callum Wilson keep up his form through December?
As expected, Newcastle United are having an indifferent season, and manager Steve Bruce is dividing opinions. While one can understand that he could not spend what he would have liked to in the summer transfer window, it must be noted that the team are not playing free-flowing and dynamic football that many fans would like to see.

Just like last season, Newcastle are not going to get relegated from the Premier League, but the St. James’ Park faithful would like to see the team show more ambition. It may be a case of hoping against hope, but perhaps things in December will change.

Below we predict how the Magpies could fare in their matches this month, and if you fancy a bet on any one or more of these games, check out this virgin game promo code to give you a leg up when betting this month.

Aston Villa P-P Newcastle United, December 4

Newcastle United will not be in action this week after the match against Aston Villa away from home at Villa Park in the Premier League on Friday evening was postponed after Newcastle’s training ground was closed on Tuesday. The game is expected to be rescheduled for January or February.

Newcastle United v West Bromwich Albion, December 12

As things stand, Newcastle’s match against West Bromwich Albion at St. James’ Park will still go through. West Brom won against Sheffield United at The Hawthorns on November 28 and will be full of confidence now. A win against Newcastle under the current circumstances is not entirely out of realm of possibility.

Prediction: Newcastle United 0-1 West Bromwich Albion.

Leeds United v Newcastle United, December 16

After successive 4-1 defeats to Crystal Palace and Leicester City before the two-week international break, Leeds have recovered their form. Marcelo Bielsa’s side were unlucky not to pick up all three points against Arsenal at Elland Road and should have won by more than a solitary goal against Everton away from home at Goodison Park. The West Yorkshire club will be on the front-foot and will take the game to Newcastle, who are likely to take a cautious approach. Leeds do give chances to the opposition, if manager Steve Bruce’s side are able to hold on tight at the back and hit them on the counter, then they could pick up a win.

Prediction: Leeds United 0-1 Newcastle United.

Newcastle United v Fulham, December 19

Fulham are in dire form at the moment and are in real danger of going back to the Championship at the end of the season. The Cottagers are just a point above the relegation zone, and although they will not be easy pushovers, it is hard to see the Magpies slip up at St. James’ Park.

Prediction: Newcastle United 2-0 Fulham.

Brentford v Newcastle United, December 22

Newcastle fans will love to see manager Bruce field a strong team for cup competitions, and he could well do it depending on the coronavirus situation at the club. Brentford have bigger fish to fry, with the Bees aiming to finish in the top two of the Championship table this season. The London club may not take the EFL Cup seriously, and that should open the door for Newcastle to register an easy win.

Prediction: Brentford 0-3 Newcastle United.

Manchester City v Newcastle United, December 26

Manchester City have looked fallible, and an early goal for Bruce’s side could make things tricky for Pep Guardiola’s side. The Citizens have not exactly looked rock-solid at the back, and Newcastle could get chances. However, City are sensational going forward, as they showed in their 5-0 win against Burnley. A home win does look likely.

Prediction: Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United.

Newcastle United v Liverpool, December 30

Liverpool have had a plethora of injuries, but manager Jurgen Klopp’s side are going strong. However, the festive period could be tricky for the Merseyside club, and Klopp may have to rotate his squad. While Liverpool will be favourites heading into the match at St. James’ Park, the Christmas period does tend to throw up some surprising results.

Prediction: Newcastle United 2-1 Liverpool.
