Burnley vs Newcastle United
English Premier League 2018/19
26th November, 20:00 pm BST
Turf Moor, Burnley
UK TV: None
Turf Moor is the setting for Monday night football as the Premier League returns this weekend following the international break.
Burnley and Newcastle United head into the weekend in the bottom seven, both of us only one point above the relegation zone which we could fall into if results don’t go our way on Saturday and Sunday.
Rafa Benitez recorded our first two victories of the season prior to the international break – a 1-0 win at Watford to start the month before beating high-flying Bournemouth 2-1 at St James’ Park, with Salomon Rondon scoring a brace in an excellent performance last time out.
Meanwhile, Burnley haven’t won since September and are sliding down the table, picking up just two points from their last five outings. They have also failed to score in three of their last four matches.
Monday night’s game in Lancashire is of huge importance to both sides – can we continue our winning run? Or can Burnley end their dismal run? The bookmakers have given us a good price to win, and if you wanted to have a bet, it might be worth checking out bettingworx.com before placing a bet.
Jamaal Lascelles went off at half-time in our win over Watford and may not be ready for Monday’s game. Florian Lejeune has been sidelined all season, Jonjo Shelvey isn’t expected to recover from his muscle injury in time whilst striker Yoshinori Muto is still out with a leg injury.
The Clarets will be without Stephen Ward, whilst Ben Gibson has been out since joining from Middlesbrough over the summer. James Tarkowski is also a doubt with a hernia, but Steven Dufour should be fit to play again.
Predicted Burnley Starting Lineup (4-4-2): Joe Hart; Matthew Lowton, James Tarkowski, Ben Mee, Charlie Taylor; Aaron Lennon, Steven Dufour, Jack Cork, Johann Gudmundsson; Sam Vokes, Chris Wood.
Predicted Newcastle United Starting Lineup (4-4-1-1): Martin Dubravka; DeAndre Yedlin, Fabian Schar, Federico Fernandez, Paul Dummett; Matt Ritchie, Ki Sung-yeung, Mohamed Diame, Kenedy; Ayoze Perez; Salomon Rondon.
Burnley vs Newcastle United Betting Tips
Newcastle United are in much the better form of these two and are 8/5 to win.
Can Salomon Rondon add to his brace before the international break? The Venezuelan striker is 13/2 to open the scoring on Monday night.
We led at half-time in our win against Bournemouth last time out and are 7/2 to lead at the end of both halves against Burnley.
Prediction: Burnley 1-2 Newcastle United (11/1).
