The Magpies v The Lilywhites, the first ever League Champions.Newcastle take on Preston North End in a somewhat rare Saturday 3pm kick-off today. I say somewhat rare as this will be only our 9th ‘conventional’ kick-off all season. Newcastle will no doubt be looking to add to the last 2 superb home results against Cardiff and Coventry with another positive result here today whilst Preston have reasons of their own to bounce back after their midweek defeat at Derby County.
Our very own bowburnmag will be in attendance today, no doubt getting all radged up in level 7 with his boys then off to get smashed afterwards, and a special mention for Whumpie who has informed us that he is making the 800 mile round trip from the deep south-west to St James’ Park today, I hope you enjoy your day out! Preston North End: A proud history.A warm Geordie welcome awaits the visit of the Lancashire lads as Newcastle take on Preston at St James’ Park for a somewhat rare Saturday 3pm kick off. Newcastle fans will be hopeful of another strong performance straight after Wednesday’s 4-1 win over Coventry.
After watching The Toon hammer in 9 goals in the last 2 home games, Preston manager Darren Ferguson is sure to have his troops fired up for a strong defensive performance whilst possibly trying to sneak a winner on the break, and with players like Danny Wellbeck and Jon Parkin up front, that is a possibility. The Lilywhites have more than enough in their armoury to have a go at Newcastle and will have one eye over their shoulder as another defeat could jeopardize their current 14th place in the table and see them slide further towards the relegation zone.
Preston’s last league trip to St James’ Park came way back in 1981, with Newcastle running out 2-0 winners on that occasion. Our most recent meeting with them was the 1-0 win away at Deepdale back in November with Kevin Nolan scoring the winner. (more…)

Preston North End: A proud history.Well the two week international break will eventually draw to a close for us Monday evening when Newcastle United will continue their quest for league domination, hoping for a win during their visit to Deepdale, home of Preston North End.
Preston started off the season well, but after having lost some of their early sharpness they will be looking to achieve their first home win since September. With their players returning from a fitness break in La Manga, let’s hope they don’t feel too refreshed when meeting us. 1980 is the last time the Lilywhites beat Newcastle at Deepdale although we have gone face to face there 34 times over the years with the Toon only notching up 12 wins in total.
Ex Toon coach and now North End manager, Alan Irvine, will have his latest recruit, Michael Tonge, available for selection. The 26-year old midfielder, on loan from Stoke, has not seen any action with the Potters in the Premier League this season, with just three Carling Cup appearances this season. (more…)
