Hello good afternoon and welcome to our “match banter” feature for this afternoon’s game against Aston Villa.
It’s very early days yet, but the Villans have had a poor start in their first two Premiership games. Losing both, they currently lie right at that bottom of the Premiership, though they will be hoping to bounce back this afternoon at St James’ Park. Lets hope it doesn’t happen!
Anyway, I’m in something of a rush to get this finished in time so I won’t dwell on things. However, if you are looking for some more in depth background to this afternoon’s game, my collegue Jimbob has already prepared his excellent match preview which, as usual, should have everything you need to know in the run up to this game. Good afternoon Geordies and welcome to our regular “match banter” feature for this afternoon’s early kick-off against Aston Villa at St James’ Park.
Despite being a fair sized Premiership team, unlike Newcastle United they tend to pass under the radar of most due to being incredibly dull and boring, especially under their current manager, the dull and boring Alex McLeish. However, as quite a few Toon fans who were there when we were relegated at Villa Park in 2009 will testify, some of their supporters can be a nasty lot sometimes.
Some of us will not forget their taunting chants and thoughtfully prepared banners, to be displayed in the case of us being relegated on that fateful day (see photos below). On the rare occaisions they’ve come on this site, they’ve also been spoiling for a fight for some bizarre reason too. It certainly isn’t a Birmingham thing though. When supporters of their neighbours and rivals, Birmingham City, come on here they have been the exact opposite, and have quite possibly been the nicest “visitors” we’ve had on here, so much so that I was almost delighted when they got St. Christopher as ther manager at St. Andrews. But I digress. (more…)
