Four of Newcastle United’s most likely Summer targets
Newcastle United are now 14th in the Premier League and will need some serious summer additions if they are to improve next season.

Since the January transfer window, when they spent over £90 million on five new acquisitions, Eddie Howe has continually been linked with several players.

The Magpies are said to have been handed a similar budget for the summer transfer window listed in Vwin’s report, including player sales. The recent 5-0 drubbing in the hands of Premier League champions Manchester City exposed obvious weaknesses that will require urgent fixing.

Here are the top summer targets for the Magpies.

Dean Henderson

Since his sensational loan spell at Sheffield United from 2018 to 2020, Henderson, 25, has been second fiddle to Manchester United’s David De Gea.

The England international gained promotion and finished tenth in the Premier League in the 2019/20 season with the Blades.

Newcastle is reportedly looking for a new goalkeeper to replace Martin Dubravka. The 33-year-old has struggled with injuries in the past and is prone to mistakes.

The Magpies’ manager, Eddie Howe is looking for a ball-playing goalkeeper to fit his possession-based mentality.

Henderson wanted to leave Old Trafford in January, but the Red Devils refused because they wanted to maintain him as a second-choice player until the summer.

Sven Botman

Botman, 22, has been Lille’s best defender this season. Newcastle had two offers for the centre-back rejected in the January transfer window.

The second offer was said to be in the area of £29.2 million, but the French turned it down. A similar offer might be accepted with the French club’s finances severely affected by the pandemic.

Newcastle instead bought Dan Burn from Brighton for £13 million, although the Dutch international is expected to return in the summer.

Botman would be akin to a ‘Vincent Kompany’ signing for the Magpies, heralding the start of a new era at St. James’ Park under the new Saudi ownership.

Boubacar Kamara

Kamara’s contract runs until the end of the season. He has made 120 appearances for Marseille throughout his career.

With an average of 71 completed passes each game, the Frenchman enjoys getting on the ball. This percentage is greater than 95% of other players in Ligue 1.

For the role of sitting playmaker in Newcastle’s midfield, Marseille’s defensive midfielder would be a tough competitor for Jonjo Shelvey.

The Toon could play higher up the pitch and control games with Kamara’s defensive presence and passing precision.

Darwin Nunez

Nunez, 22, has been a revelation this season in attack. This season, he has 26 goals in 31 games for Benfica.

The striker’s performances have been exceptional, including scoring the game-winning goal against Ajax in the Champions League last-16 at the Amsterdam Arena.

In 2020, the Uruguayan became the most expensive signing in Portuguese football history after joining at €25 million from Almeria.

Because Callum Wilson is prone to injury and Chris Wood has been far from convincing, Nunez would make an excellent striker for Newcastle next season.

Nunez, who has four goals in the Champions League this season, has the potential to lead the Magpies attack for the next decade.
