Newcastle United vs West Ham match banter!

Newcastle United v West Ham United.
The return of big Sam, big Andy and Kevin Nolan.
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle.
Date: Sunday, 11th November.
Kick off: 3:00pm
Referee: Mike Dean (the Wirral)‎.
UK TV: None.

Good afternoon and welcome to our “match banter” feature for this afternoon’s game against West Ham.

Today, around 50,000 Geordies and a few Londoners will gather to watch Big Sam’s long balls and Alan Pardew’s long balls clash. As I mentioned in my previous match preview for the game, Newcastle United and West Ham are two of the biggest “route one” teams in the Premiership, so expect to see quite alot of “mortar fire” into both teams’ penalty areas this afternoon, and possibly a fairly tight contest between the ninth and tenth placed teams in the Premiership, as though Big Sam’s teams may not be they most entertaining to watch, they are usually tough nuts to crack.

Of course, today’s game will see the return of no less than three ex-Magpies, Big Sam, Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll, so let’s hope that they all get a real Geordie welcome!

Well, as I’ve already said most of what I had to say in the run up to this game in the abovementioned match preview, I’ll just get on with reminding you that that as usual, I will be adding the teamsheets for the match below when they become available. Finally, this match will not be shown on UK TV, but I will also be posting some online links for this game, as well as some match highlights and possibly, probably posting a video of the whole thing if/when that becomes available too so stay tuned if you aren’t gannin’ to St James’ but still want to see the game.

Howay the Lads!

  1. We haven’t got a single defender on the bench, unless you count Anita. I assume Jonas will play in the holding midfield role.

  2. I have seen people write that Wham’s defence is shaky, but the have conceded 11 in 10, 2nd best in the league. Hopefully, it will look a lot worse after today.

“We haven’t got a single defender on the bench, unless you count Anita. I assume Jonas will play in the holding midfield role.”

And Rob Elliot on the bench (who was supposed to be injured) instead of Steve Harper. Unless Harper’s knacked again I don’t understand that one.

  4. Quietly confident about this game, be interesting to see who comes out on top in the middle of the park. Jarvis can whip in a good ball, and although knocking on a bit yossi is still a canny little player.

I do hope Nolan gets a good reception, we have missed his uncanny knack at popping up at the right time, and from what i’ve seen many agree. Here’s to hoping those troglodytes we have unfortunately have to count among our ranks dont ruin a potentially good game by slating Carrol and Nolan, and instead get behind our team.

“na worky on outskirts place called chelmsford”

danny b, my mate who’s helped out with this site alot in the past is a Geordie living in deepest Somerset. He says he’s surrounded by West Ham fans out there for some bizarre reason!

  6. Right place at the right time as per usual for him. Carrot to score against us is still nailed on.

  7. there loads down here worky sadly there more pakis who support united tho I know 1 other toon fan here it sucks we deserve to be behind hopefully we get our arse in gear I’m hatin this

  8. The commentator is right about Cisse running offside, he needs to stop that as he does it a lot.

“Nolan silences the douters….hard to believe he is fat,old and slow”

He was never going fit in once Pardew introduced his new scintillating style of football to SJP, SJT.

Tell me about it Danny b. I love watching football and I love watching NUFC, but I’d rather have a lie down than watch this!

  11. When was the last time we played decent football for 90 mins in the prem?
This shit Partridge is serving up week in week out is GASH!!

“When was the last time we played decent football for 90 mins in the prem?”

Aye SJT. Every time we’ve played exciting football and gone a couple of goals in front, Pardew’s parked the bus immediately for the rest of the game.

  13. terrible game. We picked up a bit after their goal but the commentator said it is 2 years since we have won after going behind.

I was surprised we werent booed off.

The only slivers of hope are that they look shite as well and we usually have a better second half. I am not holding my breath though.

“How are we losing to West Ham of all teams.”

We aren’t that much different to West Ham or Reading though Phisix. We’ve even got an ex manager who managed both of ’em. We not having that bit of luck we’ve been having, or that bit of magic from Benny or whoever to make the difference.

  15. What is wrong with Benny today. Guess all we can hope for is a draw now and that’s pushing it at best from this performance.

“8 more years of this then, Worky. It’s such a sad life for us.”

I’m still debating with myself about whether I should even bother with a highlights post for this one Phisix, never mind a full match video!

  17. I would not bother, Worky. Who in they’re right mind would watch highlights of this dross again?

  18. This team has not got a win in it as long as Pardew has anything to do with it.Pathetic Useless Atrocious

  19. I was looking at highlights for this game to post and one of them was just 14 seconds of tugboat kicking the ball into the back of the net. That just about sums it up really!

  20. Krul spent more time in Hammers box than all of our midfield players. If Pards etc can’t see that, what hope have we got. Sunday morning league football better than that s**te I just watched.

  21. Illogical and just plain poor from Pardew yet again. I mentioned on the other side that I felt he deliberately went out to flatter Carroll. He spoke so glowingly of him during the week even stating he would like him back at Newcastle.

He flattered him further by focusing so many human resources to keep him out the game as if he were Messi when Carroll has not looked dangerous in two years and he has not scored this season. Just Illogical why a thinking person would do that.

Pardew knows Nolan having worked with him yet he ignored him all game surprised by what Nolan is capable of.

Our Season tactic has been Ba. We cannot expect him to score every game. When he does not score it becomes as clear as day light.

  22. Had to eventually turn the audio off, as both the Fox play by play guy and color commentator were driving me nuts.
A stream of whining criticism only added to the misery of what i was watching.
Look i can see the point of BSA’s game, not a lot of money and like Stoke, he plays a controlled style, big guys, goals from set plays, typical route one ball.
But he has been successful over the years in a mid table sense.
But Pardew, with good talented players, why is he playing hoofball?
Would we not be better off playing a possession passing game ?
Or does he really understand how the modern game has developed ?
Things dont look promising right now, though it’s still early in the season.
And following to-days defeat, there must be a tightening of anuses around top management, plus the message is clear.
    We need defensive help.
I guess the only way to get Ashley to spend, is the threat of Relegation, that also applies to dumping Pardew.
But nothing will happen before we get beat by the Southamptons or Readings then we should see some movement,
I have given up on this season already, so am willing to see us finish in the lower reaches, as long as we are not relegated, which could be a possibility.
Too bad as there’s gonna be a big increase in revenue from US broadcasters next season, which i’m sure our owner is well aware of.

  23. That was difficult to watch. We created some chances even though we didn’t seem to have a plan and West Ham were basically toothless, content to try to hit us on the break in the second half.

It is a pity that AndyMac has disappeared as he would have plenty of ammunition today.

  24. Chuck: I agree about the commentators, they made a bad game worse. The sidekick did nothing but moan from the kickoff.

“Our Season tactic has been Ba. We cannot expect him to score every game.”

michael, it’s just any of the big forwards who are in form, and that happens to be Ba ATM.

Perhaps the most telling game tactically this season was Pardew against his protege, McDermott, at Reading. That’s who we are but with fancier players.

  26. Worky
Yeah, what do you expect from Mr Speakgood (ED.)
I hope you missed the incident where Williamson almost gifted the Hammers with a second goal, had it not been for Kruls lucky save.
Guy should still be playing for Wycombe, that is if he could force his way into the side.
    Ah well!

  27. Ashley sat back and watched us get relegated, this time would be no different. Unless we start playing to our team’s strength we will drop like the preverbial. We have continental players who have speed and a good touch yet we keep clouting high balls up the middle?
Cisse was MIA and Williamson was a donkey. Santon was class and Ben Arfa ran his legs off. We could be in trouble this season, not because the players arent good enough but because the Manager is tactically inept.

“and Ben Arfa ran his legs off.”

He’d never be the same player again if he really did that Clint. ;-) We’d be up shit creek without a paddle too.

  29. Hell i have’nt heard anyone described as a center half since the days of Frank Brennan.
Gives you an idea where Pardew’s head is at.
We also gotta pretty good inside right in HBA and our our young outside left Fergie is looking decent.
Though our right half Tiote is, giving away a lotta fouls, who does he think he is Jimmy Scoular ?
