Newcastle United v Club Brugge.
Our first meeting with the Belgians of Brugge.
Venue: St James’ Park, Newcastle.
Date: Thursday, 25th Oct.
Kick off: 8:05pm
Referee: Martin Hansson.
UK TV: ESPN.

Hello, good evening and welcome to our “match banter” feature for this evening’s Europa League game at St James’ Park with Belgian table toppers, Club Brugge.

For some in depth information on the visitors, as well as all the usual team news and words from Alan Pardew about the kind of team he’ll be putting out and so on, you can consult our extensive match preview. As well as that, I will also be posting the teamsheets for the game when they become available. Though thanks to Alan Pardew, we can say that Cheick Tiote, Sammy Ameobi and Shane Ferguson will definitely be playing a role, with the Silver Supremo also saying that he will be fielding a “younger” team this evening. Here’s what he said:

“The team will be younger. I’m looking forward to seeing it. It’ll have a lot of energy, and we hope that’ll cause problems. It will be very similar to the one selected to play Bordeaux. That’s the best clue I can give you.”

On Sammy and Fergie, he also added:

“They are two players, I think, who can effect the first-team at this football club and take us forward as a club. It is a big game for them and they are training very, very well. We hope to see some fine performances from those two in particular tomorrow.” “We have to respect that Brugge are top of the league. We did that with Bordeaux and put a team out that was very strong, and the same will go for Brugge.”

Well here’s hoping that the youngsters will be up to the task, and we keep our position at the top of our group after our opening 0-0 draw against Maritimo, and our surprisingly easy 3-0 victory over second placed team, Girondins de Bordeaux! We are currently on 4 points, with Brugge and Bordeaux hot on out tails with 3 points and Maritimo propping up the group with a solitary point with that draw againnst the Magpies.

As you can see above, once again this Europa League match will be broadcast live in the UK on ESPN, as well as on other channels worldwide. However, for those of you who can’t get the game, I will also be posting some online links for the game in the comments section below so stay tuned!

Howay the lads!

Good news is we’re going 4-3-3 bad news is we have 3 stifling midfielders :(

  2. FFS hope he’s not playing Ferguson as a LB, we need him on the wing, he’s the only guy we got that can play there, unless we bring on Marveaux or stick Sammy there.
Niether of who can provide service to our striker/s as good as Fergy.
Stick that big jiboney williamson as a CD and play Perch as LB.
I suppose it will be Obertan though on LW.
    Why ? dont ask!
I’d like to know what the problem is with Marveaux, how come he’s not getting games ?
Did he become a bad player overnight or is he suffering from an injury ?
Same with the guy we were so keen to bring to the club Amalfitano, we ever gonna see him in the black and white?
Well from the above group, hers my choice, for to-night, actuallycomimg up soon.

  3. I dont know if Pardwho knows how lucky he is to have this relatively easy group when Spuds have Lazio and Panathinaikos and the RBD’s get Anzhi and Udinese ?

If he cant fathom his way out of this then eight years will turn out to be a lifetime for the Toon Army !!!

  4. What the feck are you on Chuck ???

Fergie is LB and Sammy is LW thats what the formation says !!!!!

  5. I just cannot belive how f_cking awful Virgin f*cking Media are. As soon as the game comes on, I get the screen blocked with a “card invalid” message. I’ve fixed it now but even so…

    Bastads!

    Rant over, HWTFL!

“See the Fat C*NT hasn’t taken down the main SD logo….fat tw@t.”

SJT, he wasn’t that bothered about the ones on the outside anyway because you can’t see them on the telly.

  7. workyticket says:

“Borrdeux are a point in front of us as it stands right now” Thanks to Pardwho’s selectorial nonsense in Madeira.

Yep they’ve equalised WT but we need to win all three home games and the point away at Maritimo should do it.

  8. As I said earlier we need some creativity in midfield. Three stoppers arent gonna do it especially if you’re relying on Obertan and Sammy to create for Cisse !

  9. Sammy Ameobi is shit…can’t believe how many people w@nk him off off on twitter….proper SHIT.

  10. But where did Amalfitano and Marveaux go, Andy?

Sounds properly dire. Again. How many games now? One (1) truly good 90-minute performance.

Am I not entertained? I am not.

  11. What’s with the slagging of Sammy? You’ve hardly ever seen him play. He played a few friendlies, had couple of cameos as sub and then got injured. If I remember right, he did OK at Maritmo.

  12. I’m not whinging WT just pragamatic. Three central enforcers weren’t ever likely to open play up and spray passes around ?

  13. I didnt criticise Sammy WT do keep up !

But Obertans finish is something you see once or twice in a lifetime !

“I didnt criticise Sammy WT do keep up !”

Aye, sorry, that was SJT Andy. A great miscarriage of justice has been corrected now.

“Jimmy Savile would have loved Sammy as a boy…..”

He would have loved Shane Ferguson now, he still looks like he’s about 12.

    Stop it !!!

“Phisix let me know when you’re going to wax lyrical next”

Andy, I’m still trying to get his “Shola was sexual then. Why cant he always be like that.” comment out of me heed. :-)

  18. Good observation, Andy. I’m at work. Was never going to be entertained…but happy with the 3 points. Understand Sammy made the goal quite tidily-howay the Ameobis!

  19. Couldnt have got a better group to gradually bed ourselves in. Its a good result and we’re growing (even with Pardwho) into Europe. By the time we reach Round 32 we should be a little more acclimatised.

    “For Sunday.”

Aye Andy, but we both need to start knocking them out a little sooner in the future. ;-)

  21. I was at the game tonight and though it wasn’t great it wasn’t as bad as some people above were saying it was, honest! :-) It was somehwere in the middle for me.

Sammy was probably the best player overall, and he got better once his brother came on. Obertan was so much better in the second half than he was in the first and Fergie really is a good crosser.
