Lee Probert.

Hello good afternoon and welcome to our “match banter” feature for this afternoon’s game against Aston Villa.

It’s very early days yet, but the Villans have had a poor start in their first two Premiership games. Losing both, they currently lie right at that bottom of the Premiership, though they will be hoping to bounce back this afternoon at St James’ Park. Lets hope it doesn’t happen!

Anyway, I’m in something of a rush to get this finished in time so I won’t dwell on things. However, if you are looking for some more in depth background to this afternoon’s game, my collegue Jimbob has already prepared his excellent match preview which, as usual, should have everything you need to know in the run up to this game.

Unlike previous matches, this will not be shown on UK TV but fear not, I shall endeavour to post all the best links for the game before kick off, as well as the teamsheets when they are available. I will also be posting highlights when the game is over, and possibly a video of the whole game if I can.

However, as I write, I’m in a bit of rush for this one, so I’ll sign off now! Well, I will after asking you to vote in our latest poll asking whether you think Newcastle United have had a successful transfer window, or not as the case may be.

Howay the lads!

  1. Same as Chelsea, same formation, and a piss poor bench. Dunno how Villa have set up, might be 4-4-2, though I doubt it. Probably more of a 4-5-1.

  2. Substitutes: Steve Harper, Mike Williamson, Dan Gosling, Gael Bigirimana, Romain Amalfitano, Gabriel Obertan, Sylvain Marveaux….and its a 4-4-2 line up today, something which we’ll just have to get used to :(

One shitey half and another less shitey one !

    They’ve picked two strikers Jimbob.

“Thanks for the links WT here’s some other options for the same streams”

Cheers Andy, that one could be be a better list this time.

  5. I’ve been ranting this morning about our failings – time for some positivity…1) Papisse is due a goal today – we may not be playing to his strengths with the 4-4-2 but kids a wonder. 2) HBA has looked very spritely and will be up against a relatively poor midfield – If he is in the mood he should maraud us to victory. 3) Demba has looked hungry and sharp. Hope he proves me wrong and thrives in this formation. 4)Krul got his blip out the way on Thursday – cannot see him having another one. 5) No Zoggy or Given! 6) Chance for Anita to show his class.

  6. Thanks for the links Worky and AndyMac, the game isn’t being shown here live, we have “United” against Southhampton.

The Bloodzeed one is as good as the telly GS. It’s superb.

If its a true 4-4-2 then Holman will be on the left, El Ahamadi and Bannan central leaving Ireland out on the right ??

I think it’ll end as 4-2-3-1 with Weimann and Holman supporting Bent with Ireland pulling the strings, probably his ham string ?

  9. If Given has lost his reactions then he really doesn’t have much left. He was never any good at coming for crosses.

The Zog is probably just having one of his moods. He’s French.

    Aye, sorry about that lads.

I’m having trouble finding a Sopcast link myself Jimbob.

“FFS anyone got a link that works properly?”

That one I posted above is ok under the circumstances Jimbob. I think it’s the same fox sports one sampdiago mentioned.

Ahh. Tried some of those before but they weren’t on at the time. Cheers Jimbob.

  13. Tired of watching this system, Jonas is so much better through the centre. If we want to play 4-4-2 then we should have bought some wingers.

  14. Theres some sort of antivirus program appeared from nowhere and its not letting me open google crome or anything else…

    Have you tried restarting?

“Tried everything worky mate not even letting me do a system restore”

What is your computer saying when it won’t let you open stuff.

If you’re using Windows, have you tried the task manager?

  17. Pardew sez he has told Cisse and Ba they need to start delivering soon, and if they don’t, they know that he has “other tactical options available.”

  18. It’s like the first 2 weeks all over again. Shite first half and try to fix it in the second. Imagine a Santon injury haha..

  19. We look totally demoralized. Same old story, Santon slows everything down by always having to stop, and switch to his right foot, so does Jonas. It’s neither of their faults, the players on the pitch are not suited to 4-4-2 if they have to attack a game. Long balls do not work, Cisse and Ba just don’t seem to click beside each other.

    45 minutes to win it…

  20. We are playing OK. I am watching on some Hungarian feed – coolsport on that wiziwig site. It is quite good, only 2 ads so far.

  21. They can’t deliver worky from hit and hope balls from our defence. FFS we’re so predictable sometimes.

  22. At least Liverpool and Spurs are making us look better. If we made some smart signings in the last window we really could have made a fight for top 4.

  23. The Silver Supremo says:

“I think both Papiss and Demba have been under par.

“If we can beat Villa, those two guys then go away for Ivory Coast-Senegal, which is a massive game for this club.

“If Senegal end up going through and we lose those two strikers, it’s going to worry me.

“Then, in the next transfer window we’re going to have to do something about it.

“But in the short term, their form has not been good in the few games they’ve played and I’m asking for a lot better against Villa.

“I think they know I’ve got enough tactical options to make them worry.”

  24. Maze, this is easily one of the worst teams we will play at home. Should be comfortable and in control, but we’re not.

  25. I don’t know what game you are all watching. Villa have had one shot (header) and scored. We have been unlucky several times.

  26. Horrible substitution! Would have put Marveux in for Simspon. Move Santon to right and Jonas to left back. Come on, we´re goal down Alan, give at a go!

  27. What tactical options, Can Perch play up front too? Shola’s knacked 95% of the time. Is Ranger back in contention?

“I don’t know what game you are all watching.”

Well we aren’t watching “El Classico” that’s for sure.

  29. well hope fat man and pardew are happy simpson out any more injurys and a relergation fight on our hands

  30. not a full house to day wonder why its another poor first half performance we will strugle if any more injurys im pissed off big time

  31. Boom!

Can’t keep relying on individual brilliance though although I will take it any time!!

  32. Thanks Andy Mac but I am enjoying the Hungarians. I can’t tell if they are talking shite or not, whereas I know trev Francis or David pleat WOULD be talking shite.

  33. I know the share the same name, but do they need to share the same blade of grass in the penalty area!

  34. maze202 says:

“Our corners and crosses always seem to hit the first man”

Dont start Maze, this is the “Everything’s right with the NUFC world” Site

  35. Sammy J says:

“there is too much room between the midfield and front 2”

Sammy J taking us way back down memory lane :)

  36. It’s like we play directly but don’t practice crosses and corners. 3 More since my last comment.

  37. We won’t come up against many better teams than Villa at home this season so don’t worry :-)

  38. OK I’m just gonna say this one last time.

When will this clueless muppet work out how to get the rest of the team closer to the forwards ? Sorry GS cant help it !!

On the positive side Bigi done good.

  39. Oh dear – the players looked like they didn’t know what they were doing. No understanding upfront Cabaye too far from the front play. Crosses were dismal.

  40. We should have bought that Van Persie guy.

I think Pardew did what he could today. Ba and Cisse are not firing. He brought on marveaux as an attcking change.

We can only play with the players we have now so judge him for that and not what could have been.

  41. I can’t see anything different we’re doing than last season at the start. Guess Cabaye, Ba and Cisse need to get their acts together and start scoring from 30 yards. At least HBA is doing it for us :-)

Or we could scrap this static set-up and play to a system which gives our flair player more freedom. Set-pieces today were diabolical.

Ben Arfa stood out by a mile again, God help us if he gets injured.

  42. Jimbob: we let our two (supposedly) best players take the set pieces – Cabaye and Ben Arfa. What else can we do?

You cant have it every way you want. If we were letting Williamson take the corners (I know he dodn’t play) I would understand your point.

  43. PARDEW IS DEAD,LONG LIVE THE STOOGE, who will be next, nigel adkins, or paul lambert?
i said earlier, we’d limp to a 2-1, but even that seemed ambitious.
the first ten minutes were slghtly unpardew, as the game was fast and flowing, but after that, it peetered out into “the pardew zone”, and we all know what that entails, by now.
i’ve got to say, i dont think these players are playing for him, has he lost the dressing room?
because there is no passion, urgency, any kind of plan, apart from knock it long, and play sports directly, into the box.

paul lambert had recruited from the lower leagues, and at times they played us off the park.
one thing is glaringly obvious, pardew has definately had young’uns foisted onto him, and he’s been lied to, bigirimana development squad my a**e.
the gruesome twosome, had no intentions, beyond trying to act the big men, after their bargain basement success story of last season.
sorry to say you two w***ers, it isn’t going to fly this time, and your little stooge looks like, he’s taking the water in.
is this the begining of the end, of el gobs***e?

  44. another poor performance up to now we are proberly the worst atractive side in the prem unless we pull our finger out teams like southamton swansea westbrom will be playing better football than us i can see fat man and pardew decition not to strenthen will back fire big time missing teotie

  45. Howay man! I know there are quite a few of you who haven’t voted in our latest poll yet.

“Do you think that the last transfer window was a good one for Newcastle United?”

  46. Is anybody a fan on here any more? What I see lately is just pissing and moaning.

Chris, that was not a bad game. We could easily have scored three and Villa had their chances too.

Erm, ey, ah, that is the way it is for Newcastle United. We are not ’80s Liverpool or Man U.

  47. i’m just getting sick of the whole depressing scenario, worky.
it’s getting to the point, where you can see what is coming next, it’s like being some low rent psychic, come spiritualist.
i know it’s early in the season, but i just cannot see it improving much, with pardew.
your right though, in regards to the beaded guru, at liverpool, he wont last two minutes, as the inhabitants of beirut, will be calling for his head, soon enough.

  48. Bigsledge @133 Because there were really 10 minutes to go and he was trying to win the game.

Most people on here would give him credit for trying something different and a lot of people want to see a lot more of Marveaux.

  49. GS says:

“I think Pardew did what he could today. Ba and Cisse are not firing. He brought on marveaux as an attcking change”

Ba and Cisse havent fired as an attacking front for us or even for Senegal. Pardwho should know that and bite the fecking bullet by taking one of them off or playing them wider in a front three.

If, as it looks, we’ve only got two regular forwards with Shola being a little hit and miss, it makes sense to keep one of them out of harms way. As it was today, if either of them had got injured, we had no forward on the bench to replace them.

OK Pardwho fecked up by telling Ba he’d play him centrally so he’ll just have to man up and say “for the good of the team Demba, please do the biz out wide”.

A bit of brilliance got us out of jail against Spuds and again today but what does Pardwho have to do with that ?

  50. TR73: F@ck, improving much? We finished 5th with this manager.

YOU CANT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS.

You cant say that Ashley is depriving the club of money and then say that Pardew is shite. Yeah, you will say it is all Graham Carr like the idiots of Ed’s blog. Get the tee-shirt that he advertises on there if you think only that – “in Carr we trust”, give me a break.

  51. GS we “plss and moan” because we have a team capable of mixing it with the top four yet we have a manager and board who seem to want to wrest that ability away from the players ?

How many times, to your knowledge, has Pardwho had to “change things” during a game ??????

  52. So AndyMac: who got us to the point of challenging the top 3 in the first place? Jacky Charlton, Gordon Lee, Lord Westwood?

  53. gs, everyone has to concede, that last season was a fluke, and even then he cost us, as we could have had more points.
the season before, he cost us a top ten finish, with his inane meddling.
i think more and more people are seeing that, he is limited as a coach.
the 442, he is playing is becoming less and less effective, by the game.
there is a lot more talent, to this side, but it is not being utilised, by pardew.
he just doesn’t seem to know what to do with them, and it’s becoming painful to watch.

  54. TR73: I don’t have to concede that last year was a fluke. And if there is so much talent in this side then why can’t we succeed despite Pardew.

And if there is so much talent in this side then why not give the Fat Man some credit for it?

    Nah, in Carr we Trust!

And if it is “in Carr we trust” then we should just sell the whole lot and start again because we trust him.

  55. GS says:
    September 2, 2012 at 6:50 pm

“So AndyMac: who got us to the point of challenging the top 3 in the first place?”

Chris Hughton and Graham Carr, GS.

  56. Alan Pardew got us to fith on sheer luck last year. Even if there were 10 minutes to go, why stick with a formula that is obviously not working for 80 minutes of the game? Just think how many goals that team could score if there was a bit of flexibility from 4-4-2 with 2 up top who can’t play together

  57. Worky, see what I said at 145. Chris Hughton isn’t our manager anymore so what has he to do with anything except hiring Carr. He didn’t put a Barcelona system in or have a Liverpool boot room or Ajax academy.

  58. Bigsledge @147: who would you have played in the team then? You would have dropped Ba and Cisse and Ben Arfa and Cabaye?

And what system would you have played? Do you really think Pardew had the option of dropping Ba or Cisse today?

  59. I would have dropped Ba and played Marveaux. If Ba is going to moan about playing out wide then don’t play him and see how he likes it on the bench.

  60. GS says:

“who would you have played in the team then? You would have dropped Ba and Cisse and Ben Arfa and Cabaye? And what system would you have played? Do you really think Pardew had the option of dropping Ba or Cisse today?”

“Pardew had switched to a 4-3-3 formation just after the break in an attempt to get Ben Arfa further forward, and the ploy eventually paid off with 59 minutes gone”

Its not as if thats a one off GS. It happens almost every game !

  61. Marveaux, who has played all of 3 games for us and we don’t even know if he is fit. He played last year and got knacked after a league cup game. That Mareaux? :)

  62. Yea, that one. Better than having 10 players on the pitch with those two in each others pockets

  63. Andymac: I didn’t see 4-4-2 and then 4-3-3. Where is that quote from?

I saw Jonas switch inside. And we had an 18 year old kid play centre midfield because we had an injury.

Thems the hand that Pardew is dealt by Ashley and Carr.

  64. It’s was hardly an amazing team we were playing against and we definitely looked on the same level.

  65. Yeh Bigsledge: we should have beat Villa, but we should also have beat West Brom and Swansea at home last year.

  66. Correct. But we didn’t win those games because Pardew misplaced his 4 leaf clover, he seems to have lost it again after the spurs game

  67. GS its clear we shouldn’t play the two Dembas to front as they are Trojan makes a goid point about protecting one of them. We’re stuck with the management for now but that doesn’t mean we need to be pleased about the complete lack of understanding they’ve demonstrated. Name one class nay any manager who has let one player dictate how he & the rest if the team sets up? …no wonder team looked confused!
