On the Transfer Front – The Likely Lads!

Regular readers of my efforts for this blog will know that, like many other United fans, I place little credence in 90% of the stories which appear in the media about who is leaving and who is joining our illustrious club.
There is so much media “noise” going on at the moment about movements, and it’s a case of sorting the wheat from the chaff, as the old saying goes. In other words trying to identify the stories which might, just might, have a grain of truth in them.
Anyroadup, the problem is that in terms of the great Newcastle United, there aint a lot else going on in newsville at the moment, so transfer babble it is!
Here’s some of the stories which might just be on the right tracks – but remember, it’s just me saying this – I’ve read the stories, put the kettle on, had a think and what follows are my thoughts on what might be the stories which run to fruition – selected from today’s vast array of speculation. But who the hell am I to know better than anyone else!
Possible Incoming
Mathieu Debuchy – it seems from reports elsewhere that United have enquired about the 26 year old french right-back who currently plays for Lille. He’s a mate of Yohan Cabaye who has apparently been bending his ear about joining our just and righteous cause. United, we are told, are keen to get him before the Euros in case he has a stormer and the price goes up. Lille, of course, might be thinking the exact opposite!
I saw this lad play in France’s friendly against Iceland the other night. He’s a canny defender, got pace, likes to get forward and he linked up very well down the right with a certain Hatem Ben Arfa. If any older fans are reading this rubbish, I would sum him up as a right-sided Alan Kennedy. Praise indeed. Of course, if press stories elsewhere are to be believed, both Debuchy and Cabaye could also end up at Old Trafford, just outside of Manchester (I have City fans as mates so I had to say that LOL!)
Nathaniel Clyne – The Northern Echo, no less, are carrying a story today that United have “stepped up their interest” in the Crystal Palace full-back and England Under-21 international. They’re also suggesting that Ally Cissokho of Lyon is on United’s radar as back up should the Clyne deal not prove possible. No strong support for the Debuchy story here.
Now personally, I’ve got a lot of time for the Northern Echo as they don’t tend to write outlandish stuff and don’t appear to be in the pocket of the United administration in the same way as some of the other *cough* North East Publications. (If I could have put a roll-eye smiley in there at this point, I would have). If this story gets any stronger, I need to get in touch with my mate who lives in Sydenham and is Palace through and through. Once he’s stopped swearing at me in cockney, I’ll ask him what he thinks of this kid!
Possible Outgoing
Demba Ba – On the outgoing front, there continues to be a frothy-mouthed “Ba-fest” frenzy going on down there in the London media about which London club will relieve us of our syrup-loving centre-forward. Chelsea and Little Tottenham are already well in the frame if you believe what you read, and the latest to enter the fray is apparently West Ham. Mind, I saw that on a West Ham fans blog, and in reality they’ll probably be writing it in hope rather than there being any fabric to the story. If you were Demba Ba would you go back to West Ham? Me neither!
Yes, there are other stories and speculation out there at the moment, but as I said at the beginning, I’ve focussed on the ones that may have some mileage in them. Your guess is as good as mine – so please use the comment box below to add your two pennarth.
