Newcastle United vs Liverpool match banter!

Calm down, calm down....
Calm down, calm down....
Venue: St James’ Park.
Date: Sunday, 1st April, 2012.
Kick-Off: 1.30pm (Sky TV).
Referee: Martin Atkinson (W.Yorks).

Good afternoon Geordies, and welcome to our match banter post for the Liverpool game at St James’ Park.

For all the in depth stuff in the run up to the game, check out our extensive match preview of the game, with all the team news, stats, what the protagonists have been saying and much more. We will also be posting match highlights, a match report and possibly a video of the whole game for those who missed it.

Here’s hoping this game goes like our last encounter with the red menace at St James’, a convincing 3-1 victory in what was Alan Pardew’s first game in charge of the club, and here’s hoping it doesn’t go like his last one, the one at their place, where the tables were turned exactly, and thay won an equally convincing 3-1 victory against us. Of course, we do have much to be optimistic about after putting some recent erratic form behind us with consecutive victories in our last two games against Norwich and West Bromwich Albion. Here’s hoping it continues until the end of the season, for as football commentor, Brian Moore, once said, “It’s all up for grabs now!” Well, a place in Europe is anyway in our case.

As usual, I shall be posting the team sheets on here when they become available.

Howay the lads!

  3. oh no! The same as Norwich when we were smashed in the middle. Horrible tactics from Pardew for that match, i guess

  4. OFFICIAL LFC starting XI v NUFC: Reina, Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Enrique, Gerrard, Spearing, Shelvey, Bellamy, Carroll, Suarez.

Subs: Doni, Aurelio, Maxi, Henderson, Coates, Kuyt, Downing

  5. I think we can do this – love the 3 up front – but a back 4 of Danny Simpson, Mike Williamson, James Perch, Jonas Gutierrez is just plain bad planning.

As Oscar said, to lose one CD in Saylor was unfortunate but to lose two with Colo without decent cover is stark stareing bonkers!

2-2 I fear – but good enough for a Best of the Rest 6th

    “Sopcast channel Channel – 106723

‘Bloodzeed’ link. Unless you are at the match or watching it on Sky itself you will not find a better link anywhere.”

    It is good, Jimbob.

    “Thanks for the link worky!”

Nee botha Jason. I think it was Jimbob who found out that the bloodzeed one was the best.

  8. Anyone with Time Warner cable, the game is about to start onFSCP.
From the lineup, looks like another 4-3-3, at least i hope so, that’s Seven defending and three attackers.
I suggest if Pardew could get away with using Raylor as a winger, rather than use NBA he would.
But i’m sure he is aware of how that would go down with the fans.

  9. taylor should come in for guthrie and guti should be in the middle..no one out there to help guti, like he does helps left back

  10. Think something will have to be done to help Jonas out 2nd half but we don’t want to take away the chance of hitting them on the counter. We will get that chance for sure, but I think Raylor will come on at left back and Jonas will move to left wing towards the later stages of the half.

    “That Flanagan’s an ugly get!”

Spearing wins the ugly award today Worky. Whatever happened to the Spice boys?

  13. Decent first half, with some good football.
Have to say though , not much confidence in our defense, although Perch is having a good game.
Obvious bad choice to play Jonas @ LB, having a poor game as is Williamson.
Why the hell is Santon not out there ?
All of the attacking on our part is coming from the right side and HBA, who is terrorizing the Liverpool defenders.
How about either putting Santon on moving Jonas to the wing and taking off Guthrie who is not having much of a game.
Either that or replace Guthrie with Ferguson and get some balance on the left.
I thought it was a 4-3-3, but that’s obviously not in Pardews playbook, only 4-4-2, HBA only makes it a 4-4-3, by how he plays.
Could you imagine if we added another attacking winger on the left, as Flanagan is very shaky and on a yellow card.
Sh*t ! i should be managing this side.

  14. It is a 4-3-3 Chuck. Either that or how do you explain Ba’s position?

Santon is not playing because his positioning leaves us exposed the majority of the time.

  15. Cisse off again instead of Ba? I kinda feel sorry for Ba since Cisse turned up. Maybe Pards wants him to get the next goal if there is another.

And Iron Mike Williamson, Chuck. ;-)

  17. Hohoho. Poor Daglish. Hated the guy before this but now feel a bit sorry for him seeing his face. He’s gonna be under some pressure now. Another great watch today though. Benny the future!

    “gg guys well done”

Thanks John lfc. Started out as an fairly even game, I thought, but we’ve been so much better since Pardew’s started doing what some of us thought he should have done a while back. the players are magnificent ATM. We did have a fair bit of luck as well though. It still could have been more even if it wasn’t for that.

  20. That was awesome if Perch had done that against any other team id be dissapointed but its Liverpool so who cares

Any toon fans in sydney the puma shop is sellling home and away shirts for $40 on botany road in Alexandria

Never thought of that one when I was was cheering the red card, nufc. Well thunk!

A 4-3-3 is usually two wingers (goalscoring) and a center forward.
A 4-4-2 is two is two strikers as the front line.

Could you imagine a front line of HBA-Cisse- Hoilett.
With both Hoilett and HBA capeable of playing either wing.
Hoilett has pace to waste, power and a great passer, not to mention his nose for goal.
We are all aware of what the other two can do, would terrorise any EPL side.
This would be based on Ba leaving of course.
If we can then hang onto Tiote and Cabaye, that would be it for forwards and midfield.
But we have to bring in defensive quality.
Pieters, Clyne ? two full backs and a couple of CD’s

  24. Chuck, since Pardew has started listening to me at last, our front three have been absolutely fine.

Most of our men of the match today, Williamson (yes, him), Perch, Tiote and Simpson were defending.

  25. Bet Andymac’s gutted that Carroll & Enrique didn’t score or win….pr1ck!!

  26. I know what you’re saying Chuck. It is good to see us using our strengths and the players look more comfortable now. Ba is doing a good job and I think in Germany he did play wide left of a front three fairly often.

The good thing with Ba and Cisse in a front three is they can interchange whereas Hoillet couldn’t really do that other than he and HBA could switch sides. I would however like to have Hoillet, but I’d really prefer a left-back, centre back and a top quality centre attacking midfielder… Though that is only if we keep the team we have now, I think Tiote will be off in the summer, and I think Guthrie may also leave.

So pleased for Perch today, cracking game and MOTM for me. Willo was very good today and it is hard to pick a stand out which pleases me the most. Tiote was also immense.

  27. Jimbob
Theres only room for two central midfielders, unless you play a 4-5-i lineup.
I’m not so sure about Cabaye and Tiote to-gether, where Tiote plays the Sweeper in front of the back four and Cabaye a defensive/platmaker/goalscorer.
In which case Cabaye would have to leave the defensive role to Tiote and concentrate on playmaking and as an attacking midfielder.
Where you fit in another inside AM, unless you want one as a backup?
I realise Tiote is a big hero at toon, but i just dont see both he an Cabaye playing together.
If we were offered big enough bucks for him, it could finance a faster re-building of the side.
My point is sure he’s a great defender, but thats it.
his distribution though improving is not great, he has to pick his shots, not every tackle has to be over the top.
And his card collection has to be curbed.
Personally i like a more attacking side, but we know Pardew loves defensive players, having been one himself, seemingly preferring both wingers concentrate on defense.
One of the reasons we have’nt seen much of HBA until lately, having proven himself a gamewinner, he can hardly sit him anymore.
Of course he will take the credit for knowing when and where to play him, as if the guy had never played a game of football prior to coming here.
So yes we need as all teams do,quality in depth and begin picking sides according to who the opposition is, obviously we should put out different lineups against such sides as Stoke a Swansea, horses for courses , no ?
I mean we had Guthrie, Tiote and Cabaye, three DM on at the same time, who feeds the the forwards ?

“I mean we had Guthrie, Tiote and Cabaye, three DM on at the same time, who feeds the the forwards ?”

I think that both Guthrie could both be described as “box-to-box” type mids who can cover a number of bases. That’s a good thing.

A 4-3-3 can also be a 4-5-1 as circumstances dictate.

  29. Chuck, pretty much what Worky said at 76.

I would keep the middle three consisting of Cabaye and Tiote. Tiote is obviously the DM, and Cabaye is the deep lying playmaker, or box-to-box as it were.

A more advanced attack minded midfielder would be a great buy if we could get him. A ‘Matías Fernández’ type of player. Of course probably not him!

We still have Marveaux to return though I would see him in a left-sided role like where Ba is playing.

I like Pieters, and think he could settle very well here.
