Survey on St James’ Park renaming – Your views are needed!

St James' Park renaming questionnaire.
How do you feel about the renaming of SJP?
Christina from Newcastle University is currently writing a dissertation / thesis on the renaming of St James’ Park by Sports Direct, and part of her research work takes the form of a survey to record fans’ feelings on the project.

It is quite painless and should only take a few minutes, and it would be great for Christina’s project if as many people as possible could fill it in. The greater the sample group, the more accurate it will be in reflecting the feelings of we fans on the scheme.

Here’s what Christina herself has to say about it:

“Hi there! My name is Christina and I am a student in Newcastle University. I am currently writing my dissertation which is about the renaming of St James’ Park. The results of this survey are essential for the research. Thank you very much for taking the time to complete this questionnaire!”

I too live in Cyprus but filled in the questions as if I was there in Newcastle.

Also, I too hope to move back to blighty. Just got to sell the luxury villa, good price anyone!

  5. Clint,

I’ve just experienced the coldest and wetest winter on record in Cyprus and it wasn’t fun. Outside it was cold and then when you went indoors it was still cold. Bit like Whitley Bay when I was a boy. The year before last I experienced the hotest summer on record. And it wasn’t fun having 40C everyday.

In the summer in the UK people go outside whereas here we go inside to keep out the heat. It was the same in Hong Kong. The maid kept opening the patio doors and letting the hot steamy air in. Can’t get the staff you know!

  6. Done Worky. Be nice if Christina could share her work with the site once she has finished. Good luck!

  7. I wonder if Christina actually exists :)

Possibly another marketing ploy from the Fatman and his band of sly marketeers

I got no problem with naming the fairly recently biult stadiums, The Emirates, Man Citehs ground etc.
Being they have no real history.
But even the Glazers who own Man. U. and were/are, in financial difficulties, have not changed the Old Trafford name, in order to profit from some outfit wanting to display their corporate image.
It has’nt been established whether our owner, intended all along to use St. James’ Park, to display his own main business, “Sports Direct” or he intended in fact to rent the name to some corporate sponsor.
I tend to believe NUFC was bought as an adjunct to his main business and use it to advertise that product.
At the same time enjoy the control and power of ownership and hopefully make a profit from the club.
Tough way to go, but this guy believes he can walk on water i think, we will see.

From all the things I’ve heard about it, I pretty damned sure, Chuck. Whether it is or not, the current offering almost certainly won’t work, just as the previous one didn’t.

On the subject of other established clubs with older stadiums, when Daniel Levy took over Tottenham, he could have renamed White Hart Lane the “Mr.Byrite Arena” after the family firm (now defunct and called “Blue Inc”). Strangely though, he didn’t.

  11. WORKEY
Daniel Levy, obviously recognizes the historical importance and meaning of the name White Hart Lane, to Tottenham fans, whereas Ashley could be judged a social philistine.
Appearing to care little about much, other than generating as much capital as possible and whatever he considers to be success, with little regard for the feelings or others.
Then again, he could be a much maligned sensitive fellow, who is completely misunderstood.
