  1. 5 minutes overtime, 5 f***ing, b*stard minutes!?!
    Nice one howeird webb.

What a disappointing end to a hard fought away game.

  2. I thought it was a well-fought game in which we played a full part. Given the fact we were the away team, we held our own reasonably comfortably – albeit aided by some pretty poor finishing from Robbie Van Hire and others. Good defending in London for a change (recently) almost got us a draw.

There’s no doubt in my mind we deserved a draw – remembering that Danny Simpson was injured but we couldn’t sub him as we’d already used our quota of subs – and Simpson’s injury was the key as it was his area where the second goal was scored from, with him nowhere to be seen (injured further up the pitch).

Tiote was magnificent. Cabaye was largely ineffective (again) and is now in the team why??. Obertan was pants. Williamson is good in the air but a liability on the ground. Ba worked his socks off for little reward. Ben Arfa had one of his moments of magic. Krul was superb especially in the face of those ridiculous antics of Robbie Van Hire!

The booing of Krul was unfortunate but luckily didn’t affect or bother him in the slightest (he’s a tough Cookie is our Tim!) – but nevertheless, he actually did nothing wrong and wasn’t booked for any alleged “time wasting”) – in my view the booing should quite rightly be viewed in United circles as infantile and dummy-spitting by Arsenal fans!

Great goal by Ben Arfa – we’ve seen him do this a few times now and the criticism the Arsenal goalkeeper “Whatsisname” for somehow “making a mistake” is and was unfair.

Got a bit sick of the Sky commentary team with their usual London-based bias – where so many perfectly ordinary passes by Arsenal players were described as “clever” “terrific” “outstanding” etc etc and our play was largely ignored. And the massive build up about this Chamberlain bloke left them with egg on their faces when he proved to be a bit of a damp squib and was ultimately withdrawn.

No doubt the lesser-fawning quarters of the so-called “national” media will be dusting down the old “Lucky Arsenal” headlines – but those words won’t pass my lips. As I say, I thought we deserved a draw, probably nothing more – but a narrow defeat is always going to be a possibility when you change the team (as we did) to actually go after a draw.

  3. We didn’t merit a draw, and Arsenal weren’t lucky. Except for horrible finishing from Gervinho & Rosicky, we would have been 1-3 at 90 minutes.

I agree 5 minutes after a half with no goals and no injuries is questionable. I also don’t understand how Koscielny wasn’t sent off for his injury-time tackle on Cabaye. If that’s a foul, it’s a yellow. Webb didn’t give it because he didn’t have the cojones to dismiss him.

There are some problems in the squad just now. The equalizer was Santon’s fault. He was terrified of Walcott and stayed so far off him you had Colo in the LB slot and Williamson alone on RVP. RVP will eat up most any CB on his own. Santon’s defense is a concern. Cabaye was again ineffective and needs a rest or something but it looks like Tiote may be injured. If not, I’d go with Cheick & Guthrie in the middle next time. If Simpson & Raylor are both injured, we’re obviously screwed.

HBA needs including in our starting lineup. And not as a wide player in 4-4-2 either. The goal was class. (Even if the keeper did make a mistake and should never be beaten at the near post like that…)

  4. UTD111,
that’s about as ‘bang on’ an assessment as i’ve seen mate, well in.
    & i was there.
They were scared shitless of both HBA & Jonas, triple & double teaming them, respectively.
It was effectively a midfield battle, that arsenal did have the better of, but they were at home & in a game where you have 2 teams that don’t seem to get refs favouring them, it was always gonna be them that got the ‘rub of the green’.
HBA was probably our best player on the night.
His goal was almost a carbon-copy of his one v wba.
    Great goal!
    Obertan set him up.
If we could have concentrated for a couple of minutes after we scored, it could well have been a different outcome.

  5. apparently last night Vuckic was on the bench. so this could mean a return to a more attacking midfield if we have tiote out injured.

if we are going to tinker with the attack and stick obertan in with Ba why not stick Vuckic in there instead.

i think obertan needs to stop with these quick one touch football he does that usually gives the ball away and achieves nothing.

i think Vuckic might do a good job against Norwich and is a player who can get up for a head and play the ball on to the forward.

if i was pardew i would defiantly stick vuckic up with Ba and if possible keep the same team.

although santon needs some more experience. i think he needs more games and is definitely struggling with the Prem.

maybe it is best to but defenders who are accustomed to the Prem rather than buy players with champs league experience.

after all if we can beet Man u 3-0 a team can play well for a few games and get noticed but that doesnt mean they will play well throughout the season.

as it happens, santon when playing against man u in the champs league was at the time a very good defender who for his age had make it to the italiano first team.

unfortunately his knee put a stop to that and now he is playing for the under 21s.

maybe more time watching the game from the bench is needed for santon to learn the game and read it better.

ryan taylor has done well for us and using him as a utility player is an insult to the hard work he has done this season.

  6. I wonder about Santon really. He had 2 or 3 games in a row where he was our man of the match but he often has terrible games aswell. Perch not quite the laughing stock he once was though, actually not bad.

  7. maze,

you’re always gonna get new, overseas players showing inconsistency, especially in their first season, so it’s par for the course, really.
Perch did well when he came on too.

    Hey Stephen,

nice to meet you last night bud.
& good fun, pity it got spoiled right at the death.

  8. same here clint.

its not every day you have to track across london to meet gangsters to pick up good.

hoosier it was a pleasure of being a service.

clint have you seen the film they made on his life?
i think im going to give it a watch sometime soon.

but i cant believe i carried all those boxes for nearly a mile with half them the wrong order.

but hey such is life. it was rather dark so maybe he couldnt see. i didnt see any lights on in there if im honest.

did you get my message i sent you this morning clint? i thought i would send you a one word text to let you know what time i had managed to arrive back. didnt get much sleep i must admit. im off to bed soon

  14. Stephen,
i did get your message mate, sorry i didn’t reply mate, it’s been one of those days. Didn’t get much kip either man. Thing 2 kept us awake half the night.
I went for some eats with worky & his mate Paul & it was 1am+ when i got hyem.
Night mate, catch those zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz’s man.
    Later.

  15. I’ve spent quite a bit of time on a couple of Arsenal blogs in the last 48 hours….and I notice they are starting to argue amongst themselves over whether Robbie Van Hire was behaving like a total prick last night.

I can help them there – Van Hire wasn’t just behaving like a total prick – he IS a total prick. And off to Man City at the end of the season no doubt…..

  16. UTD111,

It’s poor form to be a ‘bad winner’, ain’t it?

All that cack about Krul time wasting…The ref didn’t warn him, so i’m presuming that that means no case to answer.

  17. Apologies for the lack of some kind of match report today. My $@%*ing awful Virgin broadband went off again shortly after I posted this and it’s only just come back on.

  18. Yep Clint – if the ball is in play, and no Arsenal player can be arsed to come and try to get it off him – that’s NOT time wasting.

You can’t waste time if the ball is in play.

And as you say – if he was time wasting excessively when the ball wasn’t in play, the “Man Utd ref” would have booked him. He didn’t.

  19. worky,

i was totally up for doing a report mate, but been having a ‘mare meself today & i’m stuck in the studio ’til 12.
    Sorry mate.

Great to meet ya’ man– a pleasure!
we’ll have to do it again soon.

Go & punch Dick Branson up the bracket mate.

“Great to meet ya’ man– a pleasure!

Aye it was Clint (to meet you that is), and Stephen and the Americans.

Stephen, I still owe you a drink. Shame we didn’t get more of a chance to chat with you working and everything. Next time!

  21. UTD,
    exactly mate.

The gooners were whining about Krul taking his kicks from about 20 mins in.
It’s a ‘tactic’ they employ regularly to unsettle the ‘keeper & the refs. It works sometimes!
& it gives them a great excuse if they lose.
    ;)

  22. Didn’t get to bed. Worky mate that wasn’t a usual day. Normaly I turn up, get the programs and I’m free. Yesterday was a one off. But I wouldnt be surprised if it was the same every arsenal game. Next time I think ill just pay clint to do courier duties and he can bring them along when he picks up his ticket.
It would have been a hell of a lot easier if I had have known sooner. But it was not to be.

And clint I’ve got your dvd. You didn’t collect it after the game.
