Cissokho clears up Toon transfer kerfuffle

Cissokho: "I am waiting for the green light."
Late last week, various organs of the French media were confidently reporting that Olympique Lyonnais left back, Aly Cissokho, was going to be in Toon earlier today for a medical, with Sky Sports reporting in another story that:

“Sky Sports now understands that although the Magpies did have an interest in the player, they have now opted against a deal.”

Adding later:

“St James’ Park sources also confirmed that talk of a medical were wide of the mark”

Well now Cissokho himself has come out to add to the transfer intrigue. Speaking in an interview to the same Sky Sports who pooh-poohed the speculation at the end of last week, the 24 year old said of Newcastle United’s interest:

“I am waiting for the green light from Lyon.”

“I am a Lyon player and if they agree a fee with a club, I will then talk to that club.

“But nothing is done yet and I have not been to Newcastle for a medical.

“Newcastle and Lyon are talking about me, but there are other teams interested as well.”

One of those other teams being Arsenal allegedly with a figure of around £8-9 million being bandied around. Regarding today’s supposed medical, any reports of the full back being spotted getting a round in doon the Chieftan in Elswick, or buying Cod, chips and mushy peas on Clayton Street today will certainly be “wide of the mark” too, however he certainly seems to think that a deal with either the Magpies, or another team for that matter, could still be a possibility.

Meanwhile, Olympique Lyonnais’ Chairman, Jean-Michel Aulas, has spoke on a possible Cissokho departure. He told French sports journal “L’Equipe”:

“Possible winter departures? That doesn’t mean we don’t have any more means, but we want to keep the rules we set, which is to not increase deficit.” Aulas then added:

“The transfer of Aly Cissokho? I am rather in favour of it.”

To quote my own previous story, things still seem to ba as “clear as mud” then!

    I’m guessing its 518 articles and that’s the 1st time you’ve “pooh-poohed! anything”? :D

I’m with you though, if we can get Cissokho in for a decent price I’d be very happy.

We’d still need a CB obviously but this lad is no joke. He’s a good player and worth getting to our club if we can.

Yeah aresnal got santos in during the summer, and must see what everyone else sees hes shite ha

  3. The fact that Santos is a crap defender aside, I believe he’s also injured.

OT: that injury chart over there really is getting ugly.

I think I’ve pooh-poohed once or twice before GeordieDan! ;-)

On the second thing, Ashley thinks that top footballers are like his tat in Sports Direct, so he keeps asking for 50% off! Don’t believe alot of the stuff in the press, besides the usual guesswork, some of the quotes / misinformation from a “source at SJP” look suspiciously like Llambias, who has a fairly peculiar turn of phrase sometimes. I play a little game with myself nowadays called “spot the Llambias quote”. I need to get out more!

  5. “(My philosophy) is to play football, a game made up of movement and passes.

“The coach likes long, direct football. ‘Send crosses into the box’, he often says. But I totally respect his philosophy. I will not clash with him.”
