Carlton Cole to the Toon?

Rumours suggest that Carlton Cole may be on his way to Newcastle United.
There are strong rumours from all quarters that Newcastle are lining up a bid for West Ham’s Carlton Cole.
Alan Pardew took Carlton Cole to West Ham in 2006 and he now allegedly wants to bring him to Newcastle.
Relegation will mean that West Ham need to save on costs and the England international could be available for as little as £7m.
Cole is 6ft 3in long, 27 years-old and has scored 52 goals in 248 appearances, including 11 in 36 appearances for West Ham this season.
Apparently Fulham are also interested in the player as the scramble to exploit the relegated team’s misfortunes heats up.
This could of course all be gossip and speculation but the rumour seems to have spread widely, making me wonder if there’s any truth in it.
My finger in the air assessment – based on comments I’ve read previously – is that a lot of Toon fans would see this as a bad move and Cole would probably not be their first choice as an Andy Carroll replacement.
West Ham are relegated with debts of about £80m and they will be searching for a new manager if Avram Grant leaves as anticipated. Their first choice is allegedly Norwich City’s Paul Lambert but he’s said not to be keen and their second choice – Steve McClaren – apparently ruled himself out last night.
So, what do you think of the prospect of Carlton Cole lining up in black and white?
No no no no!!! Really hope this is just paper talk!
