Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough!
Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough!
A little thought popped into my head a few days back, and it has stayed there since, bubbling away.

How about a Fantasy Football League where fellow ‘bloggers can pick their team and compete throughout the season before ultimately seeing who is the best?

That was my thought. A bit of friendly competitivess, something else to keep people involved. We can all talk a good game after all, so why not see if they are just empty words or whether or not they have some substance behind them?

So I have been searching the web looking for a solution to this thought, and I think I have finally found one. I have decided to use the software on the official Premier League site as it requires less work, and fewer personal details, to setup and administer. Not only that but it is all free aswell. I will put some step-by-step instructions below, but for now, welcome to the nufcblog.org Fantasy Football League!

Firstly, I had initially had a look at the Sky alternative but it was too restrictive. Only people over-18 can play, and only if they are based in the UK & Ireland on every third Friday morning of the month. Well not really, but you get the point. They also wanted too many personal details, like addresses, and for me that is a big no no.

Anyway, to join the league you will need to follow a few simple steps. It’s not hard, even I managed to do it!

Step 1 – First up you’ll need to register. It’s a simple process which is easy enough to follow, just fill in the form.

Tip :- If you don’t want your real name to be visible and used as your manager name, then don’t enter your real names in the surname/last name boxes, just make them up!

Once that is done, press ‘Continue’.

Step 2 – On the next screen, make sure you pick your favourite club! The rest is all communication stuff. You can tick any of the boxes if you wish to recieve updates, although I personally have left them all blank. There is also a survey participation question at the bottom. I would advise you select ‘no’ for that, but again it is your choice.

Then click ‘Complete Registration’.

Step 3 – T&C’s. Pretty standard, but they are there for you to have a nose through.

If you’re happy enough, press ‘Agree’.

Step 4 – This is where you customise your team. Here you can submit your team name, which I suggest should be your ‘blog username so everyone can see how you are doing. You can also customise your kit, but be warned that I already have the black and white stripes! It is pretty self explanatory and if you miss anything the program will tell you anyway.

Where it says ‘Newsletters’, I have selected ‘no e-mail’, although again it is up to you whether or not you want to recieve them.

Press ‘Select Team’.

Step 5 – This is where the fun begins, team selection. Basically, you get £100 million to spend on a squad of 15 players. You need 2 goalkeepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders and 5 strikers. Choose wisely as the money soon runs out.

You’ll see some grey shirts on the ‘pitch’. If you click on a position, it will bring up a list player who can fill that position just to the right of the ‘pitch’. Once that list is up, just click on your desired players and they will jump across into your team.

Tip :- Pick your starting XI first, it makes things easier later on, trust me!

Once you have done that, click ‘Enter Team’.

Step 6 – Team overview. This is where you see your team. Notice the first eleven you picked earlier are your starting players? The other four players are automatically substitutes. You will need to select your captain. Choose wisely as the captain will earn you double points!

If you make any changes, don’t forget to click the ‘Confirm Changes’ box.

Step 7 – That is your team done and dusted, and you are now entered into the entire competition. However, you need to enter into the nufcblog.org mini-league.

You will see your profile tab next to the pitch that contains your players. About half-way down, under the heading of ‘Leagues’ there is a prompt which allows you to join an existing league. Click that link (the word ‘here’).

This will take you to a new screen where it will ask if you want to join a private league. For that you will need to enter a code, which is 454702-111644. Enter that into the box and click the ‘Join Private League’ button.

You should then get directed to another screen where you should at the very least be able to see my rather imaginatively named team, ‘Toonsys team’. That is about it!

You can also participate through your mobile by using this link.

At the end of the day, it’s just something to do for a laugh and to give us something else to have the banter about. You’ll all lose anyway as I have entered my team, but there could be some small prizes on offer for the eventual winner.

It is open to anyone who wishes to play, young, old, new poster, regular poster, even if you don’ post. Absolutely anyone is free to join, the more the merrier! I will sneak updates in every now and again, not only here but on our Facebook and Twitter pages aswell.

Let the fun begin!

  10. What would I put in it though? Here is our Facebook page, there are many other Facebook pages like it but this one is ours

Sorry, watched Full Metal Jacket earlier

  11. Dave – Aye, your a friend of mine, and a friend of the blog, ut to snoop through what other people are up tp you will need to be their friend aswell :D

It never used to be like that but they have started to lock it down a bit more and make it a bit more secure than it used to be.

  12. CC – Ages

Torres and Tevez (c) up front for me, with Defoe on the bench.

  13. My blind faith in Carroll may come back and bite me on the arse, But with a midfield of Lennon, Essien, Fabregas and Bale and Rooney up top with him he should be ok ;)

PS- With of course the bull as captain.

  14. Worky – You’re right he wouldn’t. I like my 500+ word ‘blogs though, and I don’t think I could string it out that much

Er, use words “community” and “interaction” alot, Toonsy. Stick in another extended plug for the Fantasy Football etc. Bob’s your uncle!

  20. Are we having any stipulation on including our payers? You should have to have at least two in?

  21. Rorycn – Nah mate. I have one, Steve Harper, on the subs bench

I think that by limiting it the fantasy of it all gets taken away a little bit :)

Big Dave – I still need spoon feeding, both on here and in real life

  22. wanna make a rule for the fantasy football thing, everyone has to have 3 newcastle players, just to spice things up? :D i am for sure

  23. Tummy – Nah, it takes the fantasy out of it a bit I reckon. That is what it is supposed to be, fantasy :)

  24. Although if there is a demand for it then it could always be sorted :)

    See what others think?

  25. I am in. Should be a good laugh. Prejudices stop me from picking players though. Heart rules the head.Couldn’t pick any of those world cup flops

  26. i think we should, after all this is a nufc supporters league so it should be fun this way. Whoever else has entered the league doesnt have to do this, but i am :)

  27. Toonsy (or anyone really), i already have a team in this but it is already in another mini-league, do u know if u can register more than one team? Cheers.

  28. staffstoon – Pass mate. I don’t see why you can’t be in more than one league? I reckon that is where there is that leagues tab on your profile to be honest but not sure for certain.

  29. You can have your team in as many leagues as you like lads. I might even suggest we set up a league and invite lads from other Newcastle forums/blogs. So you can fly the flag for the blog as well?

  30. They could just join the Nufcblog.org league? Or am I missing something? Apologies, it’s earlyish and I’m fretting over a hospital appoitment I have to go to later :)

  31. Aye, I suppose you could do. I was just thinking you’d want clarity on an outright winner for the .org league and if they weren’t top and you didn’t have a clear .org league table it might take something away. But then you could have a separate one where the blog takes on other blogs? Maybe that’s complicating matters…

  32. Cool, will sign upto this! :D

What about their predication game.. IKTS (I Know The Score) ?

  33. Mornin’ kids. Was thinking that since there’s a forum on the fantasy football thingy it would be good to see everyone’s team on there rather than cut between comments in here.

Also good blog. been reading for a few months but wanting to pinch some squad suggestions made me post. For a sneak preview of my tactical genius i’ve got Barton, Enrique and Carroll in my team

  34. Been a lurker for a little while now. Joined up to say I’m in on the league.

I don’t know much, but I’ve already learned quite a bit from you guys. Keep the great comments coming.

  35. Welcome, both of you. If there is anything we can help with then all you need to do is ask :)

PolloDiablo – Could be worth a shot, but people can post them anywhere they want to. I will setup a discussion on the Facebook group where people can share their teams on there aswell. Mine is a closely guarded secret ;)
