Baggies out of the FA Cup bag for Toon – West Brom away!

Well it’s not really a bag anymore and we’re not even through to the 4th Round yet, but former Chelsea man Paul Elliott and comedian and Baggies fans, Frank Skinner between them managed to ‘bag’ Newcastle a difficult away tie should we overcome Plymouth in our 3rd Round replay.

Assuming we can beat Plymouth next week to make it through to the next round, we face a difficult trip to the Hawthorns just days after we’ll have played West Brom in our Championship crunch encounter at St James’. Frank Skinner, a big West Brom supporter pulled their ball our first to hand them home advantage, and despite both teams having more focus on promotion, there were easier ties to get.

Most Newcastle fans seem keen to drop out of this competition to allow us to concentrate on regaining Premiership status. However, I’m with Hughton on this one, and there’s nothing quite like a good cup run. I’m even fairly confident we could do quite well, and though we have to beat Plymouth first, I don’t see why we can’t go and win at the Hawthorns. And the last time my old man went to watch the Mags there in the cup, he always tells me it was like half the ground was full of Mags and it was a great day out as we marched on to the ’74 Cup Final. Mind you, the colours are quite similar…

The replay isn’t a mere formality though and I’d like to think Hughton will respect Argyle enough to put out a decent side, and would hope we can progress. I wonder if we’ll have any cup-tied players by that point?

  1. Tuff away test if we get past Argyle at home both winnable games, glad we avoided Leeds as they would murder us :)

  2. How very convenient.
That means that Plymouth Argyle will have made 2 trips to St.James’, us twice down to Plymouth.
We’ll have traveled twice to the hawthorns.
    Talk about traveling :D

  3. Would have liked to have got wigan away, just over 5000 they got at an all premier FA cup match, what a joke.

  4. beat me too it waddles mullet , just read it on euro sport . Mybe now we will get beckford , kilgallon and simpson in then it will be a great transfer window .

  5. Paul Elliott pulled out our ball first,Frank Skinner pulled out the Toon ball..Looking forward to my visit to St.James’s on 18th to watch some Subutteo..Best of luck for the season (‘cept our games of course!)

  6. Worst possible draw to be honest. We are not going to win, but i would have liked to se how we faired against an average prem team or one of the top 4.

Instead we get the only team outside the premiership that can outplay us.

  7. Waddler, the article translates into ‘let’s wind up the toon supporters – we wouldn’t sign a knackerd, lazy and overpaid player….. unlike some clubs that spring to mind!
