Do Toon fans give a hoot about Sheff Wed game?

So an outsider reading blogs and forums, could be forgiven for thinking that we’ve lost the focus again after we found it at the weekend. Saturday was all about the good things in football. A fine tribute to Sir Bobby, his protégé netting his first hat-trick, while we won 3-0 at a relative canter to lift the mood on Tyneside albeit briefly. However, no sooner was the celebration of that victory over, than further rumour and speculation sought to dampen what little spirit we cling to.
Uncle Jimmy who knows Gav at the bookies who is married to Jean who cuts the hair of John, Barry Moat’s window-cleaner, and he heard that Barry will be in by Wednesday, Shearer is in charge, nobody else is leaving but players are coming in, ticket prices are down, season ticket holders will be given soft cushions and the drinks are on him.
The tabloids counter each other’s stories with claim and counter claim of runners and non-runners and as ever we’re left to use this information to severely batter our brains about the past, present and future of Newcastle United.
Now wasn’t Saturday much more like it? Singing, supporting, winning. Back to what Newcastle fans do best, enjoying the craic and enjoying the football. Well the Owls are in town and with a pedigree as good as any relatively and a passionate following, you can draw parrallels with us, even down to the stripes on the shirts. Having made a fairly inauspicious start (tempting fate I know) we’ve probably got them at a good time but it promises to be a decent game both on and off the pitch.
Having had the squad depleted by sales, we can at least be thankful for a much fitter group of players this term and joining returnees from injury, Guthrie and Barton, we have new boy Danny Simpson. So buoyed by the 3-0 win against Reading and with the squad and new recruit out to impress, maybe we can put thoughts of takeovers to the back of our minds for tomorrow and enjoy the football again? Easier said than done, but let’s give it a go, eh?
We will, or will not be taken over within 72 hours.
We play Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow.
And both matter equaly!
Whatever happens, we need to catch three points every game, to get back where we belong, taken over or not. Lets not forget that Fat Mike needs to show progression in order to get paid, either now or next year.
We do what we can to cheer wor boys on, they’re fighting in our colours, whether the club is bought or not.
Howay the lads!
