You only have to read blogs like this to understand that every fan is on tenterhooks and every fan is watching with sore eyes for just a glimpse that this club we love so much, can finally move forward. Well, depending on your disposition to put faith in generic ‘sources’, we’re led to believe something is happening after all. I don’t know about you but I always somehow find it easier to believe ‘sources’, if it suits my needs. But then it’s always healthy to have a reality check. It’s alleged that this Friday could bring The Cure for the club’s current debilitating condition.

According to the The Chronicle Live, sources in London have confirmed we should finally hear at the end of this week what the future holds for us.

It’s claimed by The Chronicle Live…

“Shearer has been made aware of imminent developments which may belatedly hasten his permanent appointment as Newcastle manager. We understand the former England captain has been invited to a meeting – also on Friday – with United’s remaining top brass to bring him up to speed with the situation.

It will be the first time that Shearer has been briefed by club officials since the week following Newcastle’s relegation, when talks on his future ended unresolved.

Significantly, Newcastle club secretary Lee Charnley has already travelled down to London to keep a close check on progress on the takeover front.”

That all sounds fairly encouraging to me, though much like everything else with the town these days, it’s best to have a healthy dose of salt by your side to go with the speculation. I worry about the coming winter when it comes to gritting the North East roads, there has been so much salt used in recent months.

So updated rumours about potential announcements, at least that’s something to hang your hat on. I’m waiting desperately to court this club once again, get my fondness back and renew our bond. So I look to the end of the working week with hope and faith.

  1. Like you BBM, I prefer to believe ‘sources’ who are purveyors of information I like to hear.

    I’m therefore choosing to believe the Chronicle’s ‘source’ and look forward to tomorrow.

  2. To be fair whether it’s Friday or early next week, as long as something happens to take the club out of this inertia I don’t really care.

    The only news I dont want to hear is ‘ex chairman Freddie Shepard was successful in his bid to win back control of NUFC’ now that would tip a lot of people seriously over the edge!

  4. Bowburn, we all have to curb our enthusiasm for cryptic, enigmatic titles for the news feeds and search engines! Would it be ok if I stick a good keyword in yours? :-)

    I can not just wait the announcement that Mike is no more our owner.
    I expect all Newcastle fans to boycott Sports Direct. Just don’t buy anything from his store.

  9. I see bowburn has moved onto The Cure for his inspiration. I’m not sure if this is some kind of insight to his eclectic CD collection (are CD’s old hat now?) or if he just has a good memory for song names.
    Anyway by my nature I’m a cynical barsteward so I believe nowt until I see it with my own eyes. :-)

  14. ‘Tenterhooks’ is okay BBM. It’s usually just one word though, without the hyphen.

  15. Hugh – I had ‘tenderhooks’ and it suggested putting a hyphen in, which I thought was wrong.

  16. Yeah, it’s ‘tenterhooks’, with a ‘t’ and no hyphen, although it’s sometimes spoken as if it had a ‘d’.

    Ed Harrison goes on holiday soon (he said he was going for 5 weeks and is back a few days before the new season).
    With everything about to hot up at NUFC we may need to post some links to remind everyone about this blog. What do you think?

  19. How irritating – up until a few minutes ago I thought today was Friday and I was expecting to read a Shearer-related announcement sometime soon.

    How can I possibly go an entire morning thinking it’s Friday?

    I’ve no idea how it will work TF.I don’t know if there is a limit on how much you can write – may be one of the techy guys could answer that. I would have thoughtif no-one is controlling the threads it’s going to get very messy and complicated and difficult to follow.

  29. I don’t know if it was a one off or not, but he definitely had someone else write a couple of articles for him and the general consensus was that it was Ed’s son. Saying that it was a few weeks back and he hasn’t been back since.
